Stubby Antenna

Has anyone replaced their stock antenna with one of the stubby antennas? Either the 4" or 3"? If you have, is there a significant loss of signal? Or does the range still work well for quasi-urban areas?

I like the look of going with a smaller antenna, but I don't want to lose too much signal for the radio stations that I like.

Any thoughts/info would be appreciated.

Been running the Craven Stubby since 2007. Really can't tell a difference in reception as far as FM goes. Can't say about AM since I couldn't tell you the last time I listened to AM.

I got mine here: http://stores.ebay.com/Mangowalk-Inc...h&_sid=1879787

The silver stubby was my first mod back in Feb, 2006 and I still love it.

MINI now sells stubby antenna with three threaded sleeves to accomodate the different years and models.

Antenna mast is much like the rubber Honda S2000 antennas but same length as the metal Outmotoring antenna.

Costs about 33 bucks.

We've sold hundreds of them and unless you listen to an already weak station you'll most likely never notice a difference.

Did the MINI unit. No FM issues, never listen to AM anyways...

I have the 4" stubby and listen only to AM talk radio. I saw no difference in reception from the OEM.

Can't tell any difference between my Craven stubby and the OEM one.
I did replace the rusting threaded rod though. I bought a longer stainless bolt with the same thread and cut the head of it off.

Thanks for all the info. I went ahead and ordered the Craven Stubby. Looking forward to putting it on my car when it gets here (both the car and the antenna). I like the lower profile look.

Stubby antenna from Alta

See the post linked above.

I got the Alta stubby that did not fit quite rigth but i added a black rubber O-ring and now it looks good.

I bought the one from the mini dealership. It's pretty short. I don't listen to the radio much, but what I have listened to, there is no significant drop in signal, if any. Or in Bluetooth for that matter. It improved the look of the car sooo much.

ALTA super shorty

I have the ALTA super shorty and I definitely noticed some weird sounds on local AM stations that I always listen to... 1010 wins, 880... there is a whine in the background that is really annoying . Never had it before with the regular antenna.

I might switch to the craven or OEM one... These stations are broadcasted from Manhattan and I only drive around there and brooklyn so I am not out of range.
