Welcome! Glad to see you made your way over here. Us NFRs have to band together. Dennis will be around shortly to quiz you on your car and add you the database. In the meantime, make yourself comfortable!

OK everyone, it seems I may be crashing a party here but what a party it seems to be! I am a very eager prospective Mini owner, currently torn between getting the MC so I can have a night fire red and a MCS. My "buddies" who own the S feel that I would be wasting my time getting the MC. I feel differently. However, I was hoping for some honesty here and looking to you lovely folk to set me straight. Will I (or have you?) missed any of that extra power or am I just being silly?
It will be my fun "now I am 40 and work too hard dammit" second car, a chevy tahoe being the primary vehicle as I have 2 beautiful and bountiful goldens who believe the tahoe is theirs....

Welcome potential NFR, amazonb! I had the same problem when I ordered my MC. There wasn't an option that I could get on the MCS that I couldn't get on the NFR except for the turbo. Now I've been known to, ah, test the limit of the posted speed limits around here so I figured I didn't need the extra horse power. I motor a lot with the local club and have no problems keeping up and/or showing up the MCS in the group. But that is my own experience. I have never regretted my choice because the car is beautiful and I hear more often from MCS, I would have gotten that color if it was MCS! I have the Sports package with the Sports shifting. I do just fine! Hope that helps.

That helps indeed!
It is wonderful to know that someone like yourself has the exact joy and fabulous feeling from this car....such that I would like to have.
I think it would be a great addition to my life...
Thanks for the advice

I found that the MCS had a ton of power, but I could never really open it up wide open anyway! It definitely had a lot more than my MC! But I too have the sport button...and that makes a difference...and it's still a lot of fun! I loved the NFR too much....

Any Sun Problems?

I'm considering this color for a Clubman Order.

Someone told me that red cars fade in the Sun, and I shouldn't ever park it in a bright lot.

Any truth to this?

Thx

I would have to say no!!! How many pinkish cars do you see driving around in your area? I live in a very sun intensive area and don't see that problem around here. Go for it, I say!

I can get you the badge of honor for your signature Robinits. Just send me a PM. But like our master DBA says WE need pictures. We are a very untrusting group in here!

I have a 2003 Cooper that is Velvet Red (kinda similar to Nightfire Red). No problems with fading, and my car gets parked outside.

As far as the Cooper / Cooper S question. My Cooper is the older / slower 2003 car. I also have a 2007 MCS. Yes, the MCS is faster. But, I get more joy out of driving the Cooper. Some people are addicted to power. These people would hate a Cooper. Some people enjoy trying to make a slow car go fast. These people would love a Cooper. Neither is right or wrong, just different.

I think it may have been Snid who put it better than this...
it's the choice between having fun using what you got, versus always being overpowered and not taking advantage of it!
MC has been just fine by me.

And for the fading, I don't think these colors are gonna be a problem at all...I've seen Playschool red colored cars fade really badly, but not any MINIs

Thanks for the welcome. I have an '07 mini ordered in early June received Late July. Black roof, no stripes, auto with cold weather and premium packages. Gotham grey interior, chrome interior and exterior, hi fi sound sytem. I don't have any pictures of it, and it is dirty at the moment, but I will a picture or two in the upcoming days.

Cool. I thought it was crazy too. I don't think it would go pink, but it would lose some of the shimmer. Assume that's not the case as well?

Take care all

This is my second MINI and the paint job on the 2003 held up beautifully. I've seen the Velvet Red around here which is similar (a cousin if you will) to NFR and it hasn't lost any shimmer. Of course, the care and feeding of that paint job is up to you!

I saw an NFR clubman at the AMVIV last weekend and it was very nice!

and you've never had one of those moments where you were checking out someone's derrière from behind, only to have them turn around and feel a little weird about it?!?

You're plenty man enough Bubbles, regrets!

Did MOTD ever get more people signed up? I had been reading that they were having some troubles, and hope they've got the participation up...so I can vicariously enjoy too! (Note the laziness to scout and around and try to figure tihs out myself...)

Well I heard..... (sounds like a bunch of hens in here!!!) I had heard that a lot of people are going but they are just rebelling against the new registration process. They want to be kept grassroots type of event so they will just be showing up. At least that is word out West were very few of us make the trek so take all of that with a grain or two of salt!!
