Not sure about the rear fogs requiring the front fogs to be on. I can distinctly recall testing the fog lights a while ago and being able to toggle each independently. Still I'll have to double check now... I may be wrong.

At least I thought they did when I turned the rear fogs on as I accelerated away from a surprised tailgater. I will have to double check as well.

The rear fog lights work without the front fogs being on in my car, with the headlights on. I didn't try with just the parking lights on.

Rear fogs are independent from front fogs and vice versa or that is the standard - in motion or at a standstill.

...there is nothing in the owner's manual about the sunroof...then again there may be no need to have anything in the owner's manual about the sunroof...

There's also nothing about the front passenger cargo net. I'm still trying to figure out how to work that.

..oh yeah, one other thing....if you're anywhere near average height, if you are first in line at the traffic light stop line, you can't see it without craning your neck lower and forward....even with the seat lowered to minimum elevation....minor inconvenience.....

I didn't know...or expect...that the recent software upgrades for R56 are apparently placing intermittent wiper control for some MINIs as a push-button at the end of the stalk and on some it is retained as the first stalk position (single nudge) as is stated in the owner's manual. I wonder why this is happening and if MINI intends for this all to be consistent at some point? Was this an oops??? Either way they work fine, just a curiosity.

This isn't a software upgrade. It's for new models only. I had a software upgrade in early November, after the stalk end control emerged. It didn't make any difference for my car.

The upgrade did solve, however, the problem with trying to get the sunroof to reach the crack-open position. The roof now stops there and requires a second tug on the toggle to have the roof panel open all the way.

I'm mystified. The intermittents on my 5/07 build Cooper worked in position one and now work via a push-button on the end of the stalk following an update in September. My friend's 5/07 build Cooper, updated a few weeks ago, still has intermittents in position one. Weird.

Maybe they just went nuts when I had my updates.

That's interesting. I don't imagine you tried to push in the end of your stalk before you had your software update. I'm wondering if your May build had a different stalk from the factory than earlier builds, anticipating a later change.

The stalk in my early March build car doesn't push in at all. If there was a change, it would seem the stalk itself would have to be replaced. Does yours push in just a bit, or more like the engine start button?

Also if you have the front fog lights on, then switch on your high beams, the front fogs turn off altogether. Safety precaution since you shouldn't use your brights in fog.

Concerning the ability to switch them on - with the auto-lights they activate simply by pushing the toggle, as doing so switches on low beams automatically. And I definitely can turn on just the rears without the fronts, and vice versa.

My week 3 build was updated a couple of months ago, and now works with the button.

Do you have the auto-wiper option? That's the only way you'd get a button in the first place.

I had the software upgrade awhile back and mine still only work by nudging up. Which is a good thing because I don't have a push button on the end of my stalk. What I was hoping for with the upgrade is the setting to have the rain-sensor come on automatically when the car is started. They are now including it with the SET program. Maybe I need another upgrade to see it??? I'll have to call.

That's interesting and baffling in the same breath. Yes, I have the auto wipers. Still have to flick the stalk up once to turn them on. End of the stalk doesn't do anything.

Is there a button on the end of the stalk on a week 3 car? Seems odd they would put the button in and not use it.

Yup there's a button on mine--and I use it. There was a button on it before the software upgrade, too, but then I had to push the stalk slightly upwards to activate the auto-wipers. At first I was mad that I'd "lost" the auto-wipers, until I thought to push the button!

Ditto for me except I thought I'd lost my intermittents. Looks like we have a bit of a mystery on our hands, although as I said the intermittents work fine via the end-of-stalk button (which I could swear did not work before), so it's doesn't seem to be a problem.

With the HD radio, you can use the left/right arrows on the steering wheel or dash control to switch to the other HD channels. Most of the HD stations around here broadcast a second station on HD2, commercial free.

So is the conclusion on MINI's that have the button, intermittent or auto rain sensing mode is now activated by said button rather than nudging up. While on MINI's without the button (still haven't quite figured out where the cut off is) it's obviously still activated the original way, even after any software updates?

Hope that made sense...

It's so ridiculous, my MINI has HD radio and I haven't used it even once. Not even sure if any HD stations are broadcast in my area... Always either using Sirius or my iPod via the aux jack. Gonna have to check that out now.
