R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
Coop is getting his secret compartment unbolted while in the shop...
I also learned that with xenon lights, the little piece beside it pops out and sprays your light with windshield wiper fluid... and that the fluid tastes disgusting
I also learned that Canadian Mountees don't care... I switched Coop over to km/hr on the digital screen... well i was pulled over for going 140, I tried to pull the wool over his eyes and point out that the tach only did mph... yea, i still got the speeding ticket... but atleast I don't have to pay it since I'm not going back up there in the next 5 years

You'll probably find that they replace the entire front panel, too. It's not just unbolting. In my case they had a great deal of difficulty of finding one in my color (Fluid Silver), and apparently I was the first (as usual--week 3 build) in the country to have the color problem. Hopefully by now all of the colors are available.
On the other hand, a scratch I had before is no longer there on the new panel.

I didn't know that anyone had a working phone cradle. Ripped my armrest out. It was in the way, and non-functional for my phone.
People who have Razrs have the phone cradle working. That's the only phone I've heard that anyone has used with it.
My Razr cradle isn't charging the phone. One of these days I'll make it up to service to have them fix it.
(Has happened to me.)
My sister's Camry with an aftermarket alarm doesn't work that way. Last night, as she entered her car she accidently activated the alarm and didn't know about it. The engine immobilizer was on and she could not start the car and couldn't figure out what was wrong for 40 min!!! If it was me, I would have gotten out of the car and repeated the whole process to troubleshoot. But it's my sister..
I sat in a gas station's parking lot for a few minutes while reading a map. For protection, I locked the doors. Didn't know, until that time, that a BMW has an interior motion detector. Boy, those things are LOUD!
The manual makes a point of telling you not to leave someone in the car unattended because they might not be able to get out. Having the door locks on the toggle bank certainly is unique.
God forbid you ever have to try and get in with a coathanger....

Yup, I rotate the **** and it highlights the word "tuner." (Other options are CD and Aux.) Then I press the **** and it reverts back to the CD player face (and starts playing). Just turning the **** (without pressing) gets me the sound quality choices. I never get the word "radio."
Good luck!
There is an air conditioner/heather outlet in the glovebox. The outlet can be manually opened or closed. With the air con on, you can keep a couple of cans of pop cold in there.

Kewl I'll have to definitely use that :D
So having just received my MCS this weekend, I've been cruising through owners manual quite a bit and it seems that the manual is not universal?
For instance, I have Nav and there is no reference to the standard audio system? Does anyone know how much they customize it?

I'm pretty sure (for '07 at least) there are only two versions. One for MINI's with the nav and another for those without it.
For those with an earlier build, a software update will give yours the same function. My March build car got updated last month and its sunroof now works that way, as well.
The rear fog lights will not activate unless you first activate the front fog lights ... in turn, fog lights will not activate unless you first activate the headlamp switch in at least the first position past off ...
AND, the rear fog lights really brighten up the landscape behind you, or the flat chrome bumper of a VERY large Kenworth, MAC, or other huge beast right on your tail ...

If you don't want to mount a GPS on the windshield, I found out that it fits perfectly in the right side cupholder. Stands up, and allows you to see the screen, and if you need to input the data it's easy to just pick it up and do. I have large fingers, so this is better than trying to do it on the windsheld. Works for Garmin, anyway.
Also keeps it a little better hidden.

They customize it a lot. I have nav too and significant portions of the manual are different from the non nav one. For other options the multiple versions are usually denoted by asterisks in the manual.
