R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
Yea, as to your first question I'd get that checked out. Definitely a malfunction of some sort.
To your second question, for security/precautionary measures the doors must be unlocked either by hitting the interior switch or the button on your remote in order for the boot to open (unless of course you just hit the actual boot button on your remote). I believe with comfort access, I don't have it but I'm sure others will confirm, the boot can be opened regardless by simply pressing the 'handle' above the license plate.

Exactly. Walk up to my locked Mini, press the boot handle and it opens. When I close it, it relocks, assuming I didn't set the key in the trunk, not that it ever leaves my pocket. But I can see where a woman carrying a purse who might set it in the trunk could be in this situation.
Might be that each key needs to be programmed with your preferences as to lock/unlock , single/triple blink, & radio presets.
Heated Mirrors
The heated mirrors that are part of the cold weather package do not have a switch. They heat automatically when they get below a certain temperature.
How I found this out: After parking my car outside overnight for the first time, I came to the car and it was covered with dew. One of the reasons I got the CW pkg was for the possibility that heating the mirrors would remove the dew without me having to wipe it off manually. I looked around and couldn't find anything that looked like a mirror heater switch, so I consulted the manual and the above is what it said. I was disappointed that I don't have control over this function and living in socal, I'm not sure if it'll ever get cold enough to activate these.

I don't think hatch unlocking is a programmable feature. I know both of my key fobs are programmed alike in everything except the radio preferences, and one opens and one doesn't open the hatch with the button.
I think the programmable feature that is referenced is the fact you can program the trunk to unlock with a single press of the unlock button on the fob, along with the other door. Instead of having to press the unlock button twice.
Sorry to slightly change the subject, but does anyone know or seen a thread somewhere with a list of programmable options?? I'm picking up my new mini in a few days and would like to know what to ask them about before i motor home.
Thanks.
Thanks.
If you do a search under a category in the Info section of the navigation, the icons for all the places in that category will appear on the screen, unless you go back into info and turn off icons. I searched for a particular campus of U of Md and after I returned to the main map and even with the nav off, little graduation caps appeared all over the map. Caveat: The electronics on my MINI have amind of their own, so I don't know if this is normal or part of the Frankenstein programming my MINI has.
Ok, I've got a couple:
If you pull the windshield washer stalk partly, you'll get water but no wipers. If you pull it fully, you'll get both, of course.
Also, if you have your door open, click the hatch open, but shut the side door before actually opening the hatch, it will lock again.
You have to completely open the hatch before shutting the door. At least that's the way mine works--it's always been a little weird, but maybe this new observation explains it.

True...I have the comfort package and the radio stays on until I lock the door.
I'm wondering if there's a way to activate the cigarette lighter power without having the engine on. Anyone know? I didn't see it in the manual...I looked.

If my key is in my briefcase in the boot, the car will still start (with comfort access), but if the key is in my coat pocket, just inches from the rear hatch, there is a huge delay from the time I press the hatch button until it unlocks, except for those times there isn't.
Is there a way to keep the radio on when the engine is off? Although the radio can be on when the engine is off, it only stays on about 20 minutes, even with the starter in the equivalent to aux position.
I haven't tested how long the radio stays on yet. I only know it stays on every time I turn the car off...which is a bit annoying at times. Wait, don't tell me...I can push start again without my foot on the clutch and it will stop
I agree with you there. I was just looking for a way to turn it on without the engine.
Has anyone found a way to have the seat lock in a fixed position when the seatback is pulled forward???
I was taking a swaybar to get installed this morning and in order to get the box in the car I had to have the back seats down and front seat tilted forward. What I found TOTALLY ANNOYING is that the seat would continually slide forward and back with any sudden speed change (i.e. stopping/starting).
I'm sure it's because of the "memory" feature for the front seat when letting people in the back, but I'd hope there would be a way to stop it.
Any ideas?

pretty sure you can just turn it on again. i seem to remember doing that on accident once. so i guess it turns off after about 20 mins to stop you from killing the battery, but then you can turn it back on right after for as long as you want until the juice runs out.
I would imagine it's the same for non-nav cars but the day I took delivery I spent so much time going through the Nav system the car finally gave an alert and said the voltage was too low. So at least the car will warn you before you run the battery down too far.
This is true. But I don't think there is a way to keep it on. I would like to be able to decide for myself. The car can (be programmed to) detect when the battery is weak, after all.
