The Mazdaspeed 3 was the final competitor to my Mini before I ordered. Imagine, if you can, trying to control the torque steer of the Mini, but adding 100 hp to those front wheels! It's truly disconcerting, and while the 'Speed 3 is a quite capable handler, the Mini just feels like it's a class or two above in almost all facets; Sooo much more refined, and all the parts compliment each other in the Mini. So really, unless you just want speed that can only be tapped in perfect driving conditions, there really is no contest.

I'm still trying to figure out all the little rules of opening the boot. Like the other day I had my bag in the boot and started driving out of the parking lot and decided I wanted something out of my bag so I put it in park and tried to open the boot, but it wouldn't open. I finally cursed at it and gave up. I guess you can't open the boot while the engine is running. Then, on another occassion, I tried unlocking the doors with the little switch on the console and then I could get the boot open with the engine running. (I do have my door locks set to lock automatically at whatever mph's.)
It's so un-BMW-like. I've grown used to holding the button down for several seconds to open my MINI's trunk. The other day I had to do that on my hubby's 5-series, and I couldn't understand why it wouldn't unlock. Turns out on THAT car the trunk opens with a mere touch.

Oh, the shame of it all! (Which one, I don't know.)

It's so much fun!
I'm remember the old Saturday Night Live actor who used to say, "Oh, I'm giggling like a leetle girlll."

Remember, those of you who are of a "mature" age?

basically - if the passenger door is locked - the boot is locked.

I think the delay on the boot pop is for our own convenience incase we push it accidentally. If you're 50ft away from your car and accidentally press the unlock thats ok cuz you can just correct it with the lock button, but if the boot pop button was instant then you would have to walk all the way back to the car to close the boot. This way you will probably notice nothing happened and let go of the button before the boot pops.

My first time through the drive thru they wouldnt take my order. I decide to drive to the window and the guy was like where did you come from. I said I was waiting there for 10 minutes and you didnt take my order. I guess the car was to low for the sensor to pick up.

not a chance, the Mini's one of the tallest "cars" on the road, somebody just wasn't paying attention when you drove up

That would make it awfully easy, but for the fact that I can open my boot with all doors locked and parked in my driveway when the engine isn't running. What confused me was when I couldn't do the same thing while the engine is running!

And then I remember that someone posted if you hold the open button for a certain amount of time, the alarm goes off! Now I'm paranoid about holding it long enough for the boot to unlock and not long enough for the alarm to go off!!!

Pretty sure I can open the boot with the car running and the fob in my pocket (comfort access), doors unlocked of course.

Yeah, seems as long as the doors are unlocked you can open the boot at any time. I guess I was hoping that the comfort access would allow me to open the boot with the doors locked just as it does when the engine is off.

Why would you have the engine running and the doors locked with you outside the car?

So you can leave your kid in the car when you stop at the local Shoot 'n Go?

Funny thing about that--my kids are grown so there's no temptation in leaving them alone like that, but I can't leave the dogs alone, either. I tried that one time in my hubby's 5-series. Forgot there's an interior motion detector alarm. Boy, those things are LOUD!

(Before you write, you should know I wouldn't even consider it when the weather is above 50 degrees, which is most of the year here...)

Not on mine. I don't have comfort access, though. I'll bet that's the difference.

Unless the law has changed, it is illegal in California to leave your car unattended with the engine running.

Yup, here too. That law was passed some years ago after a few too many cars were stolen--complete with tyke.

This is correct. Works the same way in my 330i/530i and my friends 323i and my Audi A4.

BTW I just finished reading this whole thread and it answered a lot of question I had. My MCS is arriving in about 2.5 weeks

I was just noticing the other day that the 1-touch up works for both the drivers & passenger window switches on my '08 MCS. according to the documentation, I thought the 1-touch up was going to be a late addition & for the drivers door only ?

Does your car have pinch protection? put an object in the window while it is going up and see if it stops when the glass catches the object at the top of the window.

I didn't know my MCS would experience a cold start rattle. I am hoping it doesn't happen again.

Do you know if this is just a software update that they can add to the 07 by a software update? (i reallyyyy hope so)

This has come up occasionally on a few threads. My SA says there is no software update available at the present time. Other posters have suggested that the windows do not have the anti-pinch hardware needed. Don't know if this is true, though.

That one took me a while to figure out too. I was so excited when I did!

I keep window cleaner and towel in one and quick detailer and towel (in case of presents from birds) in the other one.
