I had a thorough delivery checkout by my MA. He told me to put milk jugs, etc., in the upright netting. He was so right!

There is this curve on the way home from the grocery store...

I have an air compressor, Slime, etc., in the other net.

That is where my cleaning supplies go too. It is the best little spot!

Whoa...........!!!!Things I didn't know about my Mini

Well, I picked up my new Mini last month & being a female, I'm not the kind to open the bonnet as soon as I drive Home. Instead I read & re-read the manual & slowly learned how everything works. Please keep in mind that Mini has never seen rain, sleet or snow & probably never will....but....today I was checking where things are under the bonnet & what to my amazement!!!!!!!!!!!!!, there is NO WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID IN THE TANK"!! Not 1 teaspoon! One would think the dealer would put in at least a cup so if the weather goes bad on the first ride home, one could use the wipers & fluid if necessary. Am I right or wrong?? Have I left anything out? Oh yeah, the dealers name...well it's the only dealer in Missouri!

Hmmmm, that wouldn't be Autohaus in Clayton would it

Yes, they should have checked ALL of the fluid levels prior to you even seeing the car. Makes me feel somewhat better that I'm going to KS to get my MINI. However, I plan to use that dealer for service/warranty work.

When the MA and I were going over Ferris before I drove it off the lot he opened the bonnet and was pointing everything out. When he opened the washer bottle he discovered that it was only filled with concentrate. He went inside grabbed a water can and proceeded to "water" my mini. A passerby asked if he was trying to make it grow bigger. I almost died laughing right there.

BTW, Thanks to the group I knew more about the car than he did! It was like a test, he kept asking me questions and i kept answering them in detail .

This was kind of a cool thing I found out by accident the other day. I was parking my car in the morning and as usual I park on a slight incline, so I curb my wheels and place the car in neutral, I thought I pulled the ebrake but did not. As soon as I am ready I let go of the brake and begin to proceed out of the car. It rolls. I hit the brake, depress the clutch and hit the Start button. readjust the car and pull the ebrake. At that moment I realized my keys are in my hand. Of note I do NOT have the 500 dollar keyless start option. Later that day I do some experimenting. If you have started the car and have not left the vehicle you can, stop it, remove the key, depress the clutch and start it again without the key. The vehicle works like normal. Now why you would want to do this I don't know. Once you have left the car and locked up the car will not start again without the key in place.

I think there is a time limit on this, something like 30 sec.

I was shocked and appalled when I discovered there is no temp gauge. Not something I was really looking for when test driving of course. Thought maybe it was hidden somewhere unexpected... it's just odd not have one.

The wipers do indeed suck. Service 'adjusted' them last time I was there.

The soft paint was unexpected! My mazda3 had soft/weak paint and it was a pain...guess I will need to splurge for the clear bra.

i'd forgotten what it is like to obsess and worry over a new car!
What a great thread, but only had time to read the first few and last pages, sooo, the free shower MINI gives you - unlock your door and lift the handle, then wait about 2 seconds. As the handle is depressed (before opening the door), the window drops a fraction, most of the water drops off at that moment, then you get in. A few drops in your lap instead of a bucketful. But if it's still raining hard (as opposed to standing water) you'll get drenched outside in the two seconds...........

Anyway, you should all be thankful, carry soap and towel - save water, shower in yer MINI

Someone needs to do a rain gutter mod that can be put on in the rainy/snow season and removed for summer, if desired.

I wonder if this is related to the fact that you can close the sunroof and windows after the engine has been shut down as long as you haven't opened the door. AFAIK, there isn't a time limit on this--just opening the door.

probably not. this feature has been present in BMW coupes for a long time. Since BMW no longer use framed windows in the coupes they came up with this method to seal the window against the weather stripping.

Yup, can't remember for sure, but I believe my '94 even had it. Great feature, BTW.

This was in my 86 911 as well. I always thought it was handy since I almost never remember to close the windows. Too many years of crank up ones I guess. I would have preferred non-electric in the Mini but we don't have that choice.

I think I have read this in the very earlier pages of this thread, but I experienced it yesterday and it surprised me. I was coming back to my car after my night class, completely exhausted (not of sound mind). I do have the keyless entry thing so I thought I could just keep my key in my backpack, throw it in the boot, and off I go. I forgot to unlock the car first. I opened the boot, put my backpack, sewing box, and patterning rulers in and shut it in. Suddenly Max flashed his lights and the boot door flew open. That woke me up!

The car will not let you lock the keys in! Brilliant!

Don't know if this has been posted before, I didn't know my Mini's boot was such a dirt magnet. It's always filthy back there.

It is the nature of a square backed car. It is the same with vans or station wagons.

When I picked up Cricket at my dealer, I couldn't see any windshield washer fluid in there either so I had them 'top' it off. My MA said that all the fluid is unseen in the reservoir below our line of sight, but I had it topped off anyway for my own peace of mind.

There is a continuing issue of "weeping" windshield wipers on the S models, which may explain why it wasn't topped off. It shouldn't still be a problem, but I did have a friend who bought a fairly late production car, who had a slight leak.

There is a check valve available to fix it.

There is an indicator light with chime at startup on the tach when your wiper fluid gets low with a reminder indicator after shutdown.

I learned something quite unexpected about MINI service today. The dealer changed my MINI's oil last week on the annual basis, rather than the computer's mileage alert. I noticed yesterday that they had failed to "zero" out the computer, so I stopped in today so they could do it. Would you believe they don't zero it out if the oil change was done by date? They do an ADDITIONAL change when the computer tells it to, along with some other minor services! I can't believe MINI would waste their money this way, but she said a lot of people take a long time after the year is up to reach zero on the computer. In fact, she said she knew of cars the dealer services that are 3 years old, with as little as 7,000 total miles!

Mine shows 3,500 miles left to service; my actual mileage is about 17,500.

Ditto for me. Maybe a small thing, but an annoyance since I have to go buy some now. Also kind of makes me wonder if everything else got filled up and taken care of as it should have...

It certainly does show their attention to detail...or lack thereof. This shouldn't ever happen. Shoddy, very shoddy!!

I'll be sure to check mine when I pick it up...if that ever happens. Man, I'm sick of waiting.

It's a dealer thing.

I agree. I'm sure, like anything in life, there are varying degrees of service at MINI dealerships.
