R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
Are you sure it doesn't lock? I have the new style fob key, too, but if I turn the wheel a little right or left, it locks. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work--after all, this is one way that the car tries to defeat theft, and BMW has been doing it this way for at least 14 years--my '94 325i had it...
The red in the "S" is reflective! (Cooper S models only).

Hi all! Post number one. I joined a little while ago, just haven't posted. I'm still in honeymoon mode. Picked mine up on Jan 23rd. Wallenius Wilhelmsen ship Madame Butterfly brought Ulysses to America on Elvis' birthday. He was ordered on June 2, 2007. I spent the wait time torturing everybody over at psmini.org with my anticipatory musings. I see quite a few of them here. Hi you guys!
This is an excellent thread, though I couldn't finish it in one sitting.
I'll echo what's recurred many times here. I never knew how much fun motoring could be and I never knew how much I could love a car.

What do you mean? How does that work?
There seems to be a wide range of delivery talks. Mine told me to expect about 1/2 hour, and he used it to cover quite a few of the questions that have been on this thread. For those of us who have been driving BMWs for a while, much was similar. It's not a substitute for RTFM, of course (and I recommend doing that a couple of times), but it will help.

With the convenience package, the key stays in your pocket. You start the car, get out, close the door, and push the button to lock it. The engine will stay running.
Oh, right, right. I dont have convenience package - that's why i didn't realize what you were talkin about.
If you start you car with the key in, then shut it down (make sure you dont open the doors or it wont work) then you eject the key and I'm guessing within 30 sec of shut down push the clutch in and push the start button and it should start up without the key in...now you can open the door, close it, and press the lock button and your engine is running and you have now saved some money by not getting the convenience package haha
Without convenience package
1. insert fob into the slot, start the engine as you would normally.
2. press and hold the clutch pedal, stop the engine while still hold the clutch pedal down.
3. remove the key fob while still holding the clutch pedal down.
4. press the start button again while still holding the clutch pedal down (without the fob in the slot).
P.S. - not sure if this works with auto.

Kinda hard to push the clutch on an auto.
*sorry!* I had to get that in.
That I have to try, because "normally" one-touch down works on both windows, but one-touch up only on the driver side...
I tried it again yesterday, and it works as long as both doors are locked.
Another thing I didn't realize is the the door lock is a toggle-you can push it down to open, then down to lock; no "up" required.

But I think they meant you could use the little software bug to do it...

I tried just now and it definitely does not work on my MCS - maybe the European version is different?
Do you think they will release a software update or something for the 07s to give them the auto up too?
It's been discussed allot and it doesn't look like an update will add it.
Having said that i have an 08 and this feature has come in handy several times.

I noticed that the interior boot cover (the thing that goes up and down with the rear hatch) has a >really< sharp edge. I was getting something out of the boot in the dark last night, and banged my forehead on it- now I have a nice horizontal line abrasion on my forehead! LOL
So be careful out there people...
