Things I STILL don't know about my R56 MINI:

1. What in the world is MCA in the audio settings section on non-Nav MINIs? You can pan it from left to right. (see my gallery for a reference photo)

2. How does one program the Top 8 phone contacts on your non-Nav Bluetooth-integrated MINI? Somehow, only my mom showed up in there and nobody else. Is this a sign? ;-)

It populates mine every once in a while, it's just from frequent use while in the car I imagine.

+1

I've completely given up on any of the functions of the Bluetooth/iPhone interface except for the basic answer and talk functions -- which work very well. But I've never been able to use any of the other functions. Even after having numerous explanatons and demonstations.

Perhaps one should splurge for a Connected MINI next time around, so one will not have to go through the somewhat cryptic cellular configuration confusions.

I did not know that sometimes, usually mid-day, upon starting the car, that it would sound like it was a diesel for several minutes. Extremely disconcerting - I am actively searching the forums to understand why. It does not seem to be "in" the engine but is definitely in the engine bay....

Sounds like the dreaded Cold Start Issue. Lots of threads using this search term. The "Cold" part refers to the temp of the engine, not the outside air temp. I've never had it in my car, but I've heard there's a fix now.

Didn't know that for the few seconds that SPORT MODE appears in the digital speedo box ( after pressing sport button), mph momentarily appears where the ambient temperature is normally displayed. Cool.

quick question.. do i NEED the MINI iPod wire to successfully charge and play music from my iPod? its a 160GB recent gen classic... or is it too much to ask that the USB port put out enough juice to charge my ipod whilst playing it..

You can flash someone your parking lights with the key out - just pull the turn signal stalk like you're flashing you high beams and they come on. Who knew?

Ooh, I only just realised that the 2011 speedometer doesn't have km/h in addition to mi/h! That won't be so fun if I end up moving to Seattle next year and have frequent trips to Canada! :(

My old 2006 had both. Seems like a silly thing to change really.

I know, but don't know...

I have Rain Sensing Wipers, and I know how to set them, but what I'm wondering, if anyone can help me understand, when setting the intensity (light rain) four boxes in between (heavy rain).

General question:
1) What does the light rain and heavy rain indicators actually mean?
2) Do the boxes in between really change anything?
For that have Rain Sensing wipers:
1) Where are yours set?

Yes I've had Molly for almost 3.5yrs., but I've always wondered and the Manual is not much for "actual" information.

TIA

You can still change the digital speedo can't you? I hardly ever look at the analog one.

I just realized this morning that after I take my key out, I can flash the brights and my headlights will stay on for about 20 seconds while I walk into work in the dark!

Then maybe you don't understand them...

They are on, or off, there is no set.

To activate the rain sensor mode, you push the button on the end of the stalk. That's it, done. The other functions of the wipers can still be controlled as usual.

That length of time is selectable, too. It's one of the "key options" that you get to with the button on the end of the turn signal stalk.

...Or, at least it is on the 2012s. That was part of the presentation my MA gave me when we picked up my car ONE WEEK AGO TODAY! ('Scuse me, I'm still a little excited.)

Please read the manual. At least my manual (2011 Clubman) has a whole page (44) devoted to "Adjusting the sensitivity of the rain sensor".

Holding the unlock button on the key from outside the car will open the windows/sunroof... but not close them.

If you have Xenons, it's not a good idea to flash, unless they're already on.

I'm almost positive it's on the stalk as an owner-programmable option. Don't forget to do both keys, as options like this have to be done for each driver/key.
