I think that it's retarded that Bluetooth won't work unless you get the armrest that will only allow charging to specific phones. I should be able to get bluetooth implemintation without the armrest. I don't want the armrest and shouldn't have to pay for the armrest to get bluetooth.

You know, you can delete the phone book. If you do that periodically, you won't have that frying problem (which sounds very suspicious to me, I might add).

You don't need to use the arm rest. The arm rest only provides the additional feature of charging. My blackberry does not fit in the arm rest; it stays in its holster on my belt and connects to the MINI's bluetooth feature.

I know that the armrest is not necessary for bluetooth to work, but MINI isn't offering to set up the bluetooth unless you have the armrest. I don't like armrests on small cars with a standard transmission, it just gets in the way. Which is why they should allow bluetooth without the requirement of the armrest.

Quote: Lemon law only applies to things that materially affect the safety or driveability of the vehicle. I doubt a phone book would qualify.
maybe where your from, I guess your state is anti consumer

here in Georgia this is the law, so yeah the phone book qualifies

During the "lemon law rights period," (which generally ends one year after the date of delivery of the vehicle or after 12,000 miles) if a condition arises that substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle, then the dealer/manufacturer must correct, at its own expense, the problem so that the cor conforms to any express warranty.
  • At least one repair attempt on a serious safety defect in the braking or steering system during the "lemon law rights period."
  • At least two repair attempts on any other serious safety defect during the first 24 months or 24,000 miles with at least one repair having occurred during the "lemon law rights period" without being corrected.
  • At least three repair attempts on any other nonconformity during the first 24 months or 24,000 miles with at least one repair having occurred during the "lemon law rights period" without being corrected.

. This wording is typical. I don't know about in Georgia, but in NJ, NY and MD, it is consistently held that such things as phone books, stereos, and other "luxuries" are not subject to lemon-law protections.

And, it is probably more drivable without cel phone functions.

I believe that Coffeeman wrote (possibly in another thread) that deleting the phone book does not actually remove it from memory.

if you pay extra for an option, and the option does not work, then it's grounds

in this case, bluetooth is an extra option paid for

just like if your raidio dont work, lemon law it, find a better lawyer if you have to

Not true. The fact that something doesn't work does not qualify it for lemon law protection. Breach of warranty, yes, but lemon law no.

My very first MINI was bought back by MINI. It was deamed to be a lemon because of the seats. D'oh!

I might also add that MINI was GREAT about the whole thing. They took VERY good care of us and so that's why we're back buying an 07.

Are you sure that you cannot just order BT ala carte? I got the armrest with the wire running up the back and the BT in packages that I ordered. I'm convinced the charging sleeve won't ever be available for my phone, so who cares about that. But I bet if you just get the armrest there won't be a charging thing inside unless you get the BT too.

When you lock your MINI's doors, it locks the gas cap. Also, when you un-lock your doors, you unlock the gas cap.

That wouldn't suprise me. My MA didn't tell me anything, just handed me the manual basically. Wait, I think she told me how to adjust the seats...

Maybe there should be a thread "Things your MA didn't know about your R56 MINI" .

I've seen many threads about things MAs were not aware of...

Oil Filter Torque
The torque spec "25 N m" for the oil filter housing is molded into the outside top of the oil filter housing. No need to remember it.

On my build the intermittent wipers work by pushing in the end of the wiper wand instead of lifting the wand to the first setting as the manual says.

I didn't know that!!! I keep accidentally over-shooting and signalling the other way.

I was happy to find out a carton of eggs fits perfectly tucked in between one of the triangle cargo nets and the wall of the boot. I can do a grocery run and drive frisky!! In my old car, everything just rolled around the trunk.

Oh I see... you don't like scrambled eggs huh?!

I was surprised to learn (from this helpful site) that the hood scoop and mirror covers can be changed without having to run to the dealer. Now if I could only learn how to install the portable arm bracket for the Garmin 360 Mini navigation (photos, etc).

im sure a lot of add on parts CAN be done without going to the dealer, but some are just harder than others... then there are the components that require a software update which requires you to go to them

The OEM Boot Box works well for holding grocery bags.
