R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
So speaking of stuff you learned from the manual...
I noticed the manual says you shouldn't use a cell phone inside your car. True??? Has anyone defied this rule? I didn't know that by not opting for bluetooth integration I'd be cutting myself out of using a cell phone at all....

Drive safe, stay focused.
Correct, for safety reasons, you should not be using a cell phone while driving. However, if you must, you should use a hands-free system. In many states it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving without such a system (either a wired headset, bluetooth headset, or built-in bluetooth, or for even older cars a car phone with mic setup).
I would understand BMW warning against the dangers of driving while distracted by a cell phone, but the way it's worded they are not so much warning against that as they are warning against the mini's computer suddenly breaking down because of a stray radio wave...weird.
I was assuming it must be a CYA statement like 4xAAA suggested...

Headlight Adjustment
You can adjust your Xenon headlights with just a screwdriver or allen key. I thought because of self leveling that it had to be done electronically. I disovered that looking for this thread.
(and you can talk on your cell phone while doing it)

This may be common knowledge to bmw owners, but its new to me.
The sides of the seat can be pulled inward to better squeeze your back, this would be really valuable for auto cross.

The doors have lights in them that illuminate the ground when you open them. It's a very welcoming glow!
Oh, I also found out today that you can still play the radio w/o the key in when you get out of the car. Came in handy when I refilled the gas tank for the first time!

I've read the manual a few times (something I never did with previous cars), and it is anything but 'clear' in most cases.
Of course YMMV...
I didn't know the timing chain doesn't need a replacement for the life of the engine.
And the engine was already completed in 2004. That means the engines has been tested for over 2 years before they were sold on R56.... Awesome! The article on R56 engine

Are you talking about the manual filled with asterisks that mean it may not apply to your car, but doesn't describe how something works if you do/don't have the option?

In every owners manual I have read, the asterisks denote options. I haven't come across an instance where the manual did not explain how to use a driver-interfaced feature, although it may not be on the particular page where the item is first mentioned. Besides, my comment pertained mainly to the existence of features, not necessarily how they worked.
Perhaps you can direct me to the page that explains why MINI decided to deliver my MCS (as well as others) without a lug wrench or jack...
Thats the situation I'm in. Looking into finding them anyways for when I switch to snows in the winter.
I bought a lug wrench and jack from the dealer.
You could also get a plug kit or sealant & compressor (MINI has their version called a mobility kit)
There's also a new insert for the boot that holds the jack, lug wrench, compressor, sealant under the mat. Nicely fits everything out of the way. I think I spent something around $200 for everything.

On page 106 under repairing a flat tire.
In the event of a flat tire, different procedures should be followed depending on the equipment included in your vehicle.
- MINI Mobility system, refer to the following section
- Run - Flat tires, page 92
- Tire change with space-saver spare tire, page 108
MINI mobility system with onboard tools*
The MINI Mobility system with tire change set and onboard tools is located in the cargo area under the floor mat.

Tire change for space-saver spare tire*
On vehicles equipped with a space-saver spare tire, the tire change set with onboard tools is stored in the cargo area under the floor mat.

Standard tire plugger:

And Cycle Pump Adventure Model:

I'm going to keep both with me in my MINI even though my MC will have a spare. You never know... it pays to be prepared.

When did you get your MCS? Mine was built in April and delivered May 10th. I received the jack, lug wrench, and screw driver.
According to the manual, I should have a jack.
I got mini in April and it had the screwdriver but not the jack or lug wrench. I went ahead and bought them from MINI. Tool tray is almost complete, I think all I'm missing is the hazard triangle.
