R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
alright so i took my passenger seat off last night, and was trying to look into the black box. all I could see was styrofoam and a few loose cables. The power to the passenger airbag weight sensor runs down there, so I dont know. Anybody? I think you have to take the sliders off to get a good look at it
Are you saying that you push the button first, let go and push in the clutch and it starts?, or Hold the button, push in the clutch and it starts? , or something else?
Yes, I just push it, let go and then push in the clutch and it starts. I haven't tested to see how long you can wait before pushing in the clutch and still have it start. I'm talking a lag of two or three seconds.
I tried this and it didn't work for me. Do you have the convienence package?
Yes, I have the convenience package. Since that technique didn't work for you, the comfort access system must be the controlling factor.
I didn't know you could manually input the station numbers into the radio.
But in my defense, I've only been using the ipod attachment since I got the car, and hadn't even bothered to program the radio until yesterday

Press the lowercase m button on the radio, and it brings up a list of numbers. Press the corresponding #'s for the station...Very cool.
I did not know........(unlike everyone else probably)..............that indicators for front and rear fogs appear on the face of the speedo. On my R50 a light illuminated on the edge of the switch stalk. I like the bigger, more visible indicators!!!
I was also very pleasantly surprised with the operation of the speed sensitive wipers...my R50 did not have this feature.

Does anyone know how to leave the MP3 display active when you start the car again? It defaults to the "TRACK XXX" display then you have to switch it over to the track listing display but it reverts back to the TRACK XXX dispaly when you start the car again.
Also, I noticed small cubbyhole on either side of the center dash, right by the footwell. Is this meant to store something, or is it just how the dash gets mounted? I haven't bothered to peek under there.

If you have comfort access, you can leave the car running, get out (with the key in your pocket), push the rubber door button to lock the door....car is running and now locked. Very handy on hot summer days when running in to 7-11 to get a paper.
The European turns the engine off at a stoplight. The American leaves it running when he goes shopping.
New item!
I learned about a feature today no one has mentioned yet from my MA Jarid at Rasmussen MINI in Portland OR. It's in the manual on p. 80, but I missed it when I read it.
There is an alternate setting for the rear seats that allows a little extra room in the boot and still lets passengers sit in the rear seat (maybe a little uncomfortably, but safely). Fold the rear seat backrest forward, then pull up on the rear seat latch bar. The top part of this latch bar is where the seatback normally latches onto the rest of the car; you need to pull up on the bottom part of the bar, about 6 inches below the ordinary latch point. Then latch the rear seat to the latch bar.
Perhaps this doesn't make much sense. Examine where the rear seat latches, see what parts move, and use your imagination.

For those of you with sat nav, the instructions are listed on Page 88.
