noise/moonroof closed: quality control?

I drove 3 different 2007 MCS test cars at local dealers: 2 had noisy moonroofs.
When fully closed, re-opend & closed again, roofs will not seal/close fully. Wind noise starts at 24mph increasing in amplitude all the way to highway speeds. Loud enough to drown out the turbo engine notes & make for an uncomfortable driving experience.
-Dealer(s) acknowledge issues, several in the staff note the same problem.
-Cars are sent to service, roofs "adjusted", noise goes away but returns as soon as the roofs are opened & shut again.
-Dealer from out of state emails w/ same observations.
-Several Mini staffers in Arizona note same moonroof noise issues.
Is this something Mini is aware of? Service bulletins?
-Serious deal breaker from my point of view: 2x former Mini MCS owner seeking new car but hesitant to purchase unit w/ moonroof.

Mark I bet a bulletin will hit around march ... Kinda like I bet a bulletin will hit around march about the hidden storage space not being in some cars.

MINIUSA seems to always be slow with bulletins (IE: MFSW)

Mine has no noise though, and I've opened it a few times already.. I must be lucky :P

good to hear...

Hopefully it's an isolated case or maybe something happening w/ the 1st run cars that were shipped to US dealers. Both cars I looked at were the sparkling silver/black w/ "lounge" rust-orange interiors. Actually the very Mini I want if someone can explain how to fix the problem.
Thanks all
PS The noise is not subtle.

Wierd. The dealership I was at yesterday said every one of thier cars has the wind noise problem with the sun/moon roof.

They are advising people to wait on ordering one with it until they hear something from the factory about the problems.

I did test drive one, and it was incredibly noisy.

That's strange that there's a discrepancy...

When I test drove both the MCa and the MCSm on the 17th, they both had the sunroof, and I don't recall any noise whatsoever. I was the passenger at one point and was flicking the toggle for the sunroof back and forth, opening and shutting it, and didn't hear any irregular noises.

Mine is also noise-free and seals properly.

I do have some minor gripes about the implementation of the switch, but that's another story.

I also test drove a Cooper S today with a moonroof that was making a very, very obvious (and for me, completely unacceptable) amount of noise when it was closed.

I wonder what percentage of them have this problem? It gives me pause about ordering one with the moonroof, that's for sure.

Similar complaints over at MINI2.

Guess will have to see if it's a hit-or-miss issue effecting some cars... or a problem that developes over time.

(keeping my fingers crossed- 'cause I ordered a sunroof )

Specifically about the roof. After the test drive I took, I mentioned the roof noise was pretty bad, and he told me they have not heard if this is a factory problem or not. Everyone of his cars, with that option, have the same problem. They are advising people to hold off ordering the roof until they can get an answer. The noise was pretty annoying and way too loud.

Maybe it is just the difference in when they were assembled. I really do not know. I am just giving you what he said. Is it uncommon for a dealership to take a stance when a possible defect, or manufacturing process error, is uncovered? Of course, he could have been blowing smoke up me tush to cover for the noise.

I picked my MCS up just over a week ago and mine suffers from the sunroof wind noise problem.. It's going in on Friday to be fixed so I will report back, in the time being the best way I have found to solve it is to keep the sunroof open

be advised.....

One dealership had demo MCS cars w/ noisy moonroofs sent to service where that were adjusted to set the seal, tighten and dampen the wind nosie (closed position) Thay called this a proper "Fix." The day after both cars were taken on several test drives where someone opened & closed the moodroofs: BOTH cars redeveloped the noise problem.
IMO anyone taking delivery of a new car w/ a moonroof needs to get a full descriptiion of the problem & the fix before sighing off.
Personally I am anxious to hear from Mini because I want to buy one of the floor cars here in town.
-As a loyal 2x former MCS owner this is more than a minor issue: it's a problem that needs to be acknowledged ASAP.

Just spoke to my MA about this and none of their demos or cars they have delivered exhibit this problem, nor did any of the ones he drove in Arizona.

The issue seems spotty.

It does indeed. Maybe a bad batch of seals?

Same here, same deal, same color scheme. This was a demo car I drove at the dealership before taking away my car. Sounded like wind. It must have been an earlier build as the upper storage door was operational. They must have licked this problem.

Test drove one tonight. It had the basketball lounge leather (why would that matter). Had the wind noise. Tried opening and closing. Noise still there.

I'm concerned as well.

Maybe those who have taken delivery of their new Minis could let us know if they have a noise issue or not and if it was fixed by the dealer.
