R56 noise/moonroof closed: quality control?
Same here. The release test drive car had noise at 35-40 on... Mine is quiet till about 70-75. Do you think MINI will attempt to fix it, or will it just be more trouble than it's worth?
I was the first one to buy here in Louisiana and I have the noise. It's pretty distracting. I am hoping for a fix soon. Also, my windows lower when the door is open, but sometimes they do not rise when closed leaving a 1/2" opening. Have to remember to raise the windows with the switch.
another complaint I have is the sunshade. not dark enough for those really sunny days that you choose not to have the sunroof open.
need an aftermarket solution.

If they do fix it, maybe you could ask what they did. Was the noise from the front or back pane, too high, too low etc.
my car is not so bad..NOW..
I have several hunderd miles on my R56 and the sunroof noise has become something of a non-issue. The nice folks Mortiz Mini did some adjustments but the roof still makes some noise. What has changed is my brain: just got used to it & it simply does not bother me. My other car is a Z4 roadster so maybe I have a higher threshold for road noise.
-There is likely an airflow "turbulence" issue where the mid & rear roof unit meets the sheetmetal. If the car had a more substantial interior sun-screen (opaque, solid material) the noise would be much less noticable.
-I did have mine tinted w/ Huber-optic 30% and the temp/glare is perfectly controlled. Expensive stuff but great heat rejection!!!!

It is strange that in the UK I've read that there are bulletins on the sunroof noise and a fix for them. I've spoke to several dealerships in my area that have all said there is no fix and that's the way it is. When was yours built?
Ok my MINI has been in today for this problem to be fixed and to my surprise they have fixed it!
It sounded like a hurricane at anything above 20mph before but now it's completely silent up to 70mph.. There is a slight wind noise at 70mph+ but it's just as a gust of wind goes over roof, not a constant noise.
So to the dealers that say there is no fix, you can now tell them there is! If it helps the main thing they did was to replace all the rubber seals..
Good job MINI, it's now 100% perfect

It was built in early feb, but reading the comment from MiniMeGB, it may be that the noise I'm hearing is the same as his, since hes had it fixed....Mines going back to the dealer on Tuesday, so I'll report in when I get it back.
I took my mini in yesterday to get my sunroof noise issue fixed and i really dont think they knew how to fix it properly (it took them 7 hours )they claim mini is aware of the problem and the dealer technician had recently been to the maintenance trianing and it was adressed as how to fix the problem. As of right now it seems to be corrected but im afraid to open and close my sunroof
I guess i better test it out and check to see that in fact the issue has been resolved btw i love my mini and the noise isnt keeping me from getting rid of it

Test drove one a few days ago and it had too much wind noise from the sun roof to be acceptable for any sort of distance cruising at 70 mph. You would think that if Mini had a bona fide fix that the demo car would have it. I'm not sure which way to order, or if the issue is a deal breaker. I'd like the open top.
I've tried removing the antenna, which didn't work. I also stuffed rags into the gap around the front panel and that too made no difference. I think I'll try putting tape around all the joints, where the glass meets the roof, and see if that works.
Does the fix persist?

completely baffled......
Short version. Thought my worries were over:
A. Car was worked on at dealer before delivery, sound lessened.
B. Post delivery noise started coming back. Eventually as loud as the test-drive.
C.Had tint installed, roof opened & closed several times, noise gets better (go figure.)
D. After a week drivng noise comes back, loud as ever.
E. With a slight tail wind, nosie goes away, 99%. Even a modest tail wind & it's fine?
What the hell is going on? This must be a seal OR it's the crank/tensioner loosing it grip OR it's a basic aerodynamic flaw OR.......
-I can't wait until it rains hard, this might be interesting.
We should ALL call Mini USA and let them know we are not pleased & want an official explanation ASAP.

I was dipping into the 2002-2006 chatline, and apparently they had this problem with the 2006 models. Perhaps the dealers are tired of trying?
I'm just glad mine is quiet. And no, you can't tear it apart to find out why!

I AM GUESSUNG MUCH LIKE THE 07 ISSUE IT WAS A SPOTTY ISSUE IN PRIOR YEARS AS WELL
Well my car went in today to have the sunroof fixed. The service guy said they'll have a look at it but they don't expect to be able to fix it......I noticed on the journey to the dealers, that if I ever so slightly open the roof the noise goes away. I guess that is my answer to the problem:impatient
Not there yet
At my MA's urging I took my car into the dealer to have the moonroof adjusted. I was told the problem was solved. Driving back to work from the dealership the sound was identical to before. The dealer says he will file a PuMA report. Evidently this lets MINI engineering know that a customer has an issue.
All my avowals that it appears that replacing the seals worked were pushed aside as "internet chatter".
