Automatic locking?

I think we accidentally deprogrammed the auto locking feature and I'd like to know how to get it back. This is the system that locks all doors when over 10 MPH. Any ideas? I don't find it in the book.

How would you have deprogrammed it accidentally?

You have to hook a cable up and flash it to change any programming. How do you do that accidentally?

Check the manual in the owner's lounge on miniusa. I read through it and I remember it saying how to enable the auto locking feature.

Sndwave, there are a number of owner-programmable features on the R56 that aren't available outside the dealership on the earlier years. I think this might be one of them.

Fjork--can't find it in the paper copy. My computer doesn't like the on-line version (won't load). Do you have a page number other than 22?

Check the bottom of page 22 and the top of page 23. Automatic locking. If on, locks the doors as soon as you drive off.

It's settable in the user defined options displayed in the tacho and operated by the button on the end of the column stalk.

That's a very cool improvement! After seeing my '06 MCS unlock the doors when the key is removed, my wife would like that behavior on her '05 - I don't want to have to take it in and bribe the dealership!

Dang! I must be blind at 2AM. I thought I'd read everything on the page, and there it was, plain as day. I re-reprogrammed it and I'll see if it works when I run an errand later today. Thanks, Vader!

Maybe it was the owner's manual pixies?

Got it back, plus changed a few other features at the same time. One thing about the programming procedure--BOTH keys have to be programmed, otherwise each will work independently of the other.

Unfortunately, on the R56, you can't program it to unlock when you shut the car off. Does not appear to be a user defined option.

This reminds me that both fobs can be programmed to have different settings which can be a handy feature.

Does that mean the dealer can't program it either? Sorry for my ignorance, but I'd like to have that feature as it worked nicely on my R53.

I do not think it can be programmed by the dealer. My understanding is that any programming necessary is done by the owner, not the dealer, although, I have not asked my dealer specifically.

Perhaps someone else either has asked their dealer, or is smarter than me...

I think all the user defined options are totally awesome! Now I can program my MINI to do whatever I want [within reason] when I lock and unlock, YAY! I was reading through the online manual yesterday, it's pretty amazing how adjustable the interfacing with the car is. All with one button in the light-stalk, too easy!

Thank you for your reply. Do you know if we can program the car to open with just one pull of the handle instead of two when it's locked? The reason I ask is because I'm tired of people almost pulling off the handle when the car doesn't open.

Yes, that can be programmed. Also it can be programmed so one door unlocks and not both (safety issue, especially for women).

I second that! It was really cool to be able to change the settings so easily!!
I just sat in the car while reading the owner's manual and 5 mins later, everything was done!

Are you saying that programming is available to open a locked door with one pull? I have never seen instructions for programming that feature. The annoying double pull is why I wanted the auto unlock feature that has been removed for the 07.

No--I'm saying that you can program the car so that when you unlock it by key (as you walk up to it), only the driver's side opens. That helps keep a stranger from jumping into the car from the passenger's side. Don't know how much of a risk that is, but it IS safer.

If you're not worried about that issue, both doors can be programmed to unlock by clicking the key.

Thanks for clarifying your answer, I was confused. And I agree on the open only the driver's door is safer.
