I just called 866-ASK-MINI, they just gave me a VIN and told me that my car went in to production on Saturday 1/13. (yesterday they said still waiting for production) Does anyone know who long it takes to build? It won't be long now....

Hey AR56,
I think it's common to get conflicting info on askMINI. Someone here suggested making multiple calls and go with the majority answer.
I think i read somewhere cars take less than a week (something like 3 days?) 1 week to prepare/transport to shipping, 2-3 weeks for Eastcoast transport. Bottemline as it stands now, I'd imagine your probably a month away plus a couple of days from seeing your car.

Decoding my new VIN # basically follows the same pattern as previous years. What does everyone have in digits 4-6? I have "MF7" and I wonder if that basically means R56 MCS or what? Can anyone with an MCS can confirm the same or if you have anything different?

It's unanimous

MF7 on my MCS. ASK MINI told me my car was in the body shop today. Assuming it is completed this week, he told me it generally takes a month to deliver. Sounds like I'll get mine pretty close to release date. Not bad for placing the order last week.

Already planning a road trip to New Orleans. Granted, not a lot of curves on I-10 headed across the swamps, but a road trip is still fun.

Ditto--at least now I HAVE a VIN...she's in the body shop today, completion on the 18th. Originally I was given the 17th as the date. Wonder what changed... Oh well, as long as she's built before Friday when Wendall heads for the warm beer.

I wonder if the British have problems with Monday and Friday cars like here in the "good old days". (If you're old enough to remember this you're probably too old to have a MINI.)

lol. In my experience the English has a different outlook on life/work. Everyday is like the weekend there so every car has the same chances of being a "MOnday/Friday" car

All I'm getting for the last couple days is that I'm in the body shop. I assume that's the same as 151. Not that any of this info will get me a car anytime sooner, but it makes me feel a bit closer to driving my own car.

I have been getting in the body shop for the last few days also. What exactly does this mean, and what stages has the MINI completed if it is now in the shop? anyone know? I had a completion date of 1/17 and then it was moved to 1/19 wonder why?

They told me after the paint shop, then assembly(could that be the body shop?), then quality control for final fit and finish. After that it was awaiting delivery to port for shipping.

Okay just did my daily call to ASK MINI and now my car is in the paint shop after being in the body shop for a few days. They said estimated completion date was 1/17 again! Wonder if it is finished now, I have no clue! what's everyone elses status today?
