Thoughts? The area does get very hot. I recently bought the car (jcw w 30k miles) and i am noticing it more now.

Yes it will, especially if you don't have heat shield on underside.

I just looked and there is no underhood shielding at all.

Im running it in to the dealer this weeekend, anything i should ask them to do to mitigate this? And any tips on how to clean them? They werent stained when i got them so im assuming they can be wiped down somehow? A wet cloth did nothing.

If they are vinyl stripes then the discoloration is from the adhesive cooking. Sadly, there is no way to clean them.

first, don't ever touch the stripes say 10 mins after stopping up to an hour, if you do you can/will scratch them, ask me how I know. I then went to my dealership and they said never heard of this , I gave them part number and he was shocked they stocked it, it was like $25. Since my car was new I got it for free, and got got one put on my CPO. They used to come with this and stopped when they supposedly made the hood scoop out of better plastic, that was the reason for installing, MINI got tired of replacing $300 hood scoops.

I can't find the number right now, but if you seach you can find it. Just a tin that easily mounts under hood to spread out turbo heat.

Thats so strange, though. How come the car would cook the stripes right after I buy it? I mean, not like it sat in a bubble for three years before I got to it.

Is it possible the previous owner removed the shield to use on a replacement car?
If the stripes are bad enough to warrant replacing, it's not a big deal to do or get done. I've replaced them twice now, easy peasy.

There generally is not. A few cars came with under hood insulation, but most did not. My 2013 didn't come with anything.

I added this - Its gold DEI heat wrap and the factory heat shield (which I had to buy from Way Motor Works..)

I just picked up a 2012 MINI S and there is no under hood sound deadening or heat shield. The hood does get really hot. I don't have any scoop damage and the MINI has 41,000 miles on it. I wonder if I should be proactive and pick up an under hood heat shield just for safety sake?

I Just put a heat shield and engine insulation on my hood(also didn't have it) and the difference is night and day as far as hood heat. I did this because I just put a clearbra on the car and I'm pretty sure with the heat that high it would never last. Now it's just warm.

americo11,

Did you install the heat shield that mounts to the underside of the hood or did you install a plate that goes above the turbo?

I chose the underside of the hood because it leaves the engine area clear for circulation if need be..and as I said earlier I wanted to protect the stripes and clearmask from an early demise.

Heat shield here for the scoop.

Some cars could get the full heat insulation so the stripes will not brown over time.

Seen it on 2011-2012+ ( This ones covers the scoop )
