My '09 R56 MCS is starting to show a bit of warping of the hood scoop. I've searched and found a lot of references to this and lots of aftermarket turbo insulation options, and I found the 09/2009 TCSB changing the scoop from plastic to metal. I only found one reference to what the dealer did, however, and that was to allow an upgrade to carbon fiber JCS scoop by "paying the difference". I have a warranty to 2018, but is this a recall item? Can expect dealer to replace, paint and stripe a new scoop?
Any experiences?
My dealer replaced the turbo heat shield and timing chain tightener when I first bought it and brought it to them for inspection.
Thanks!

I'm sure he only performed the service bulletins for those two items. The "turbo heat shield" is just a small insulated clip for the oil feed line on top of the turbo. My dealer clipped the new heat shield to an already leaking fitting. Nice.
I wrapped my turbo in insulation and replaced the plastic grill opening with a metal one to allow better air flow. Still gets really hot, but I haven't seen any warping.
Service bulletins like that are usually only covered under the base warranty. I ended up getting a black Notch styled scoop instead.
Thanks, yeah, that's what I figured re: warranty, especially since the problem didn't show until after a couple of hot track days (that might or might not have happened!)
I appreciate hearing what folks have done. I think I actually just found that notched scoop last night: Below? Much less than a JCW CF, or painting and striping an OEM to match, and it looks like better venting.
I thought I'd do that, add the OEM heat shield and perhaps also the Sneed4speed ram air diverter. All less than $200!
I was told that a ram air intake would also shield the scoop from heat..but I'm not sure I want to go that route at this point.

Comments?
The intakes that do a good job of blocking the heat is the AEM CAI, DDMWorks Race intake, and the M7 AGS-R CAI. IMO the AEM is best bang for buck. I used to run that (In fact I'm about ready to put this for sale on the marketplace) before I switched to the DoS Intake (discontinued) for more noise .
All 3 of those intakes have a funnel that goes from the scoop back to the intake. The M7 AGS-R is just way too much money IMO for an intake.
If you don't go for one of those intakes, then the air diverter is highly recommended.

They will replace the factory scoop but , they might even replace the stripes. Nice they will let you change the scoop also. Make sure if you do get the new scoop non aftermarket you get the extra insulation.
I just replaced
my scoop because it failed while the dealership couldn't tell me what I should do...the heat and wind actually cracked it when the plastic rivet failed.
So now I also purchased that heat shield. But when I put those two plastic bolts on it really doesn't look that "Sturdy". As though it could blow off. Here is a photo...is this how it installs?
How the heat shield looks under my hood installed
looks kind of flimsy like the wind could rip it off

ah , I Remember its the scoop indent on the top of the scoop. Bottom side of those 3 pop inserts, tabs from the grille hold it up ( which your grille is gone. )
Dealer installed my shield N/C, here are pics. Stable, takes care of issue completely.
As I live in Oregon (wet) I was reluctant to go with a ram air intake but really seems like water in the scoop not a problem so that may be next.

OH My grill is gone!
Former owner made some mods...

I just bought one of these without giving it much thought. I went out to my car and it has a factory bonnet insulator. Would the heat shield go over the insulation, or should I put it between the insulation and the bonnet? My gut feeling is the heat shield goes over the insulator to deflect heat from the insulator.
Never mind responding to this, I figured it out. I also had to modify the piece a little, snipped out the middle notch to make it wider.

I've had a carbon fiber scoop on mine as an original purchase option due to this issue. That turbo get's hot and that clip shield is worthless. To better shield the scoop and oil feed lines I recommend a turbo wrap under the factory turbo shield. As a bonus you can throw away the clip on if you have a revised exhaust shield. It added shielding where my original did not have any. Anyway wrap the turbo and your issues are gone. Even after hours of driving I can place my hand on the factory shield and not get burned. WMW turbo wrap is what I have on mine.
