R56 Reduced Power Warning, Low Fuel Pressure
Reduced Power Warning, Low Fuel Pressure
Driving around I get a reduced power warning on my 2011 MCS with 50k. On my way home it starts and runs normal, then part way home I get the reduced power message again. I get home and scan a Low Fuel Rail Pressure Warning with my simple OBD scanner.
I think OK, HPFP needs replacing, it is a MINI NEXT so it has the CPO warranty. I get it towed to the dealer, because it wouldn't be safe on the freeway with the feeble amount of power.
Dealer says they cannot duplicate the issue, fuel pump is within spec (8.6 bar, I assume at idle). I asked why can't they see the reason for the limp mode that activated 3 times (once again the morning it was being towed as I backed it out of the garage).
Does anyone know if the computer logs these events and if the dealer can get the information?

Did you record the exact OBDII error code? Most modern ECUs have an alarm history log for warranty reasons. Maybe the dealer was too lazy to have a tech with a BMW scan tool check?
If it went into limp mode it definitely stored a code. And if you could read the code out then they scan too. You didn't clear it prior to towing it in did you? Id tell them you don't feel safe driving it and they can keep it and test drive it while they put ya in a loaner. its under cpo warrantly.
They told me to come and get it. Apparently it is rare to have limp mode engage and have no data in the ECU. They drove it about 100 miles and it didn't happen to them. I guess I will keep driving and see what happens, kind of annoyed, thinking about a civic.
If it's the HPFP it'll live to limp again. Mine flat out wouldn't start when mine died several years ago. That's crazy it didn't throw the a code though. They just don't want to put a part on it that won't solve the problem is my guess.
I beg to differ! They will put parts in they know won't fix the problem. I was sold fuel injectors and spark plugs along with a walnut blasting before the HPFP was replaced at no charge! I don't know if the 2011 uses the same HPFP as the 2008 being different motors n14 vs n18 I think.
Like The Big Newt said mine didn't want to barely run when started a couple of times, leading to blasting, and (2nd time) fuel injectors and spark plugs. Then it didn't want to start at all.

The engine symbol shows up in the tach gauge and took to advance auto they read P0087 low fuel rail pressure once they unplug the scanner without erasing it goes away and I'm running. In the morn at first start up it comes back. Is it the filter or pump or faulty sensor
