Came across this randomly
I own a 2004 MC but was thinking of getting a 2nd generation.
Have any of you had lots of problems with your 08's?

A very complex folding top mechanism = lots more parts to break????
hrmm...yeah....I guess. I don't see how that would make any of the engine or rest of the drivetrain or powertrain less reliable though.
And so far I haven't heard of too many issues with the tops other than the plastic clips that were breaking on them, and that seems to have been resolved for the 2011 models.
It did'nt really say engine or drivetrain, just overall reliability and the folding top is the only reason I can think of a droptop would be less reliable. Hmmmm , maybe the Openmeter breaks a lot ??????
Somehow it makes the Cooper infinitely less reliable

just read the article...if the article is semantically correct than:
Worst Overall Reliability = MC convert.
Best Overall Reliability = MC hatch
Guess that means for once the MCS isn't the worst MINI in terms of reliability...

Have an 08 Justa with automatic. Only problems have been windows that wouldn't go all the way to the top (common problem, fixed with software upgrade) and an ipod adapter that needed to be replaced. No mechanical problems or other problems at all. But after warranty is up will probably sell.
and 2010 convertibles have the same turbo as the normal S coupe, or Clubman, or Countryman not the supercharger...
The first sentence is pure BS. Dropping the top has nothing to do with with structural stiffness. Drop head coups are more ridged by design because they are built stiffer to make up for the lack of the hard top. Even the fuel inlet is built heavier, thus the door instead of the exposed cap.
'Infinitely less reliable' would logically mean that 100% of the convertables could never be driven off the assembly line.
Mark Atkinson has his head in a very dark place and doesn't have the reach to flip the reality switch. I looked real hard and can't find where this article was published by The Onion so the guy must really believe what he has written, sad.
