Unable to Read ECU
Unable to Read ECU
Hey guys,
I have an '04 R53 which has it's 'Service Engine Soon' light on and I am trying to read the code off the computer but am unable to get a connection with it. As a bit of history, at one point the car had the shift lights kit installed which crimp on to the harness that plugs into the OBD port. I have since removed this and I suspect that may be the issue. When I plug in an OBD Reader, it turns on and starts reading but either fails or loses power and gets it back after a few seconds. Is there any way to fix this? Can I solder new cables to the OBD plug? Whats the best way to tackle this?
Thanks!

Hi,
Just wondering if you ever learned anything on this. I have a similar problem on an 02 R50. No connection to the car when plugged into the obd2 port ...
Did you ever find anything to help with your problem???? different car, but your fix may be helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

You would have to inspect that wires and make sure there is a complete circuit to the plug.
. Some OBD 2 tool have a hard time of connecting my actron unit did this, took like 3-4 times. . But the schwaben unit did not have issue. When you use it the ignition has to be turned on without the engine running, so key in position 1 . Some readers dont like to read at all..
