Experiences with stock Kuhmos
Yes, I did read through the other tire thread below which has seemed to transformed into a tire size duscussion.
I just picked up a gp2 and it has crappie A/S tires on it so they need to go ASAP.
With the stock Khumos, anyone ever run them in th rain? I live in Arizona where it hardly rains and this is a weekend car as well so this will rarely be an issue but...
I read these tires throw rocks into the wheel wells anyone experience this?
How is the noise level of this tire?

The V700's have tread so they'll be "ok" in the rain given they're 50 UTQG track-day tires. If you get caught in a rain shower you'll make it home and not die. The people flipping out over their modest wet grip are likely the same kind of people that put tragic all-seasons on a GP2.
As with all sticky tires, you hear plenty of stones and pebbles being thrown up at parking lot speeds. On the road you don't really notice a rock-throwing difference over an extreme summer tire.
Noise level? Who cares, this is a track-day tire not a highway cruiser. If you're only doing street driving, consider the extreme summer tires like Dunlop Star Spec 2 or the Yokohama AD08 in the stock 215/40-17 size.

I live in Phoenix, and have always had the Kumhos without any issue. I have 25K miles, and it's my daily driver. Obviously, if I'm unlucky to get caught in a downpour, I just drive like a grandma and everything is fine. I've been spoiled with the Kumhos, and just don't want to trade down. You can easily get 5K miles, and I usually go 7K miles before getting new ones.
The car is a little beast, and I call it my urban warrior.

Of course, there's just no way I'd run v700s down here in florida as a daily - too much heat, and too much rain.
A good max summer tire is a better choice. Leave the track rubber for the track (where it won't see things like 6 hour stints on 120+ degree pavement, or 1-4 inch standing water...)

I have noticed very small pebbles lodged between panels at the bottom. Not really a big deal, you can just pick them out when they accumulate. I would definitely clear bra the car. The upright windshield is vulnerable to a lot of rock chips too.
Road noise is not an issue for me either. I just turn up the sucky radio. My other car is a Cayman R, and I had the 2006 Mini GP aswell.

The car arrived with a clear bra covering the entire hood and front bumper!
I think I'm going to stick to direzza Z2 SS in stock size. Looks like a fair compromise for street only use (200 tread rating) unless someone has a better idea?

Also, the road noise want bad at all, but that is comparing to a R57 JCW, with the top down most of the time. Lol.
I love hearing the engine/exhaust/road noise. Don't want that covered up with annoying whining tires.
Just went away from the Kumho's myself a week ago. I found that they pretty much sucked until you got them good and hot. For street driving, they're not the best choice.
For me. This car, weekend toy with some spirited commuting, also in Phx, there was only one option. Yokohama Advan AD008 in the stock 215/40/17 size.
They're plenty sticky straight out of the garage and will tolerate a bit of this fabled "rain" I keep hearing people talking about.
I am however actively looking for another set of wheels for track days. Those will likely be shod with the Kumhos.

Great looking tire! The Direzza's also come in stock size. Regardless I am leaning towards a 215 45 17 to fill the wells a little more without having to lower the car anymore. Any benifit to sticking with stock 215 40 17 over 215 45 17?

Made the decision to go with the yoko advans. Should I stick with stock size or go 215 45 r17? Any benifits between the two sizes? I assume handling would be slightly better in stock size and less bumps with the 45's. What about looks?

Go see Jerry at Eurotech's if you want a better sound and power out of that beast. Unleash the beast!

Jerry is the man! He took care of all the work done on my R53. I would never take my mini to anyone else. Unfortunately this car is staying as is. I feel there is plenty of power for around town and more power could lead to torque steer
