Question about automatic door locks...
Hey everyone, Clay here. Just got my new 2010 mini cooper s a couple weeks ago and I am absolutely loving it.
I do however have a question. I owned a BMW X5 before this mini, and I know that whenever I got to a certain speed, the doors would automatically lock. However I did notice that my new mini does not do this. Is it supposed to do this around 10 mph? I thought that because it was produced by BMW it would have this feature. Any way to program it? I drive in some pretty sketchy parts of town sometimes and it would be nice to know I was protected even if I ever forgot to manually lock the doors.
Thanks.

Yes - See your owner's manual beginning on page 23. Note - the MINI has to be running when you are accessing and changing the settings.
You also can set if you want the annoying honk when you lock it or just lights or nothing. You can set 1 or 3 turn signal flashes for lane changes....... etc.
It will be learned in that fob as are heater and A/C settings. The spare fob has to be learned seperately - so your significant other can have her/his own preferences,,,,,,,

Thanks so much- I appreciate it MCS Fever. LUCKILY, my girlfriend doesn't know how to drive manual... so let's keep it that way for awhile. Or at least until the car is a couple years old...
Program them both the same then. Your MA should have helped you with that...... Good luck, my wife could not figure it out at all, and it took me awhile. It keeps going back to the beginning if you are not quick enough.
I tried finding the setting for the "honk" when I unlocked/locked the door... and I couldn't seem to select anything. Do you have to have the alarm system installed for that "honking" noise? I have the warning lights set now but I would like to have that noise...
My lady thinks it'll be extra easy to learn because of the hill assist. So she's ready to learn on the new car ...
maybe you should hip pocket that information.

So quick question....I won an 05 MCSc, and I know that these things can be programmed or "learned" but how....I don't have any direction on how to do this?
Mino does in fact loack at 10mph, but what I really want is to have the doors unlock when I take the key out of the ignition. The auditory feedback would also be nice once you lock, bup I can live without it!
Thanks for you help...
PS ~ Freeking Minis Rock...I had never driven any car funner than this (for the price!) :-)

WTF - A FREE MINI !?
Did you get an owner's manual? If not they are available online in PDF form.
But no, the doors will not unlock from taking the key out of the ignition....
Yes I did, but most of the options on my manual make reference to take it to the dealer for option changes.
I found the manual for an 07....I'll try and see if I can do some of the changes myself.
I'll post my results.
2007 will be significantly different being 2nd gen. Owner's lounge at MINI USA.COM has every manual in PDF from 2002 on.......
