So is it as smart a racing wheels on a Prius?

Hello all from Arizona.

I just picked up a 2015 F56 a couple weeks ago and let me tell you how nice it is to be in a fun little ride again.

I'm new to MINI but I have had countless air cooled VWs and some not so air cooled that I've played with over the years.

My question here, I have the automatic tranny, no paddle shifters just the manual option on the stick. I think I might regret that now. I didn't really have a choice with the selection on the lot but could have went another route I suppose. Now that I'm driving this I want to fix it up. Tuner, exhaust, coil overs, etc. Maybe hit a track day or two and lots of street fun as well. My problem is, it's an automatic, given it's a great automatic for what it is but it's still an automatic. I didn't think I would want to go this route but now I do. So, is tuning an auto tranny MINI like putting racing wheels on a Prius or is an automatic tranny accepted in the race world these days? I'm 37 now so I'm not the young racer I once was but I still have plenty left in me.

Thanks for reading, I know it was long.

Tmc motorsports offers piggyback tuning for engine and a 0bd2 software upgrade for the transmission.

There are many engine piggybacks on the market such as racechip, speedbusters, tmc motorsports, burger motorsports, remus,nm, way motorworks.

I have a racechip on my f55 and am very impressed with the performance.

Nothing wrong with the autobox except you can not add a lsd.

Thanks F55. I've seen all of the options. Will probably stay away from anything that will void the motor warranty so I would do a piggy back I can peel off for service/repairs. My main question I guess is, will I get laughed off the track pulling up to track day with an automatic. I know I used to be the guy who did that. Also, I don't want to throw a ton of cash at this if I won't be hitting track day. I'll just throw on a tuner, some 18" rims and tires and cool overs and enjoy the street bit of it.

i had a super hardcore 2009 fjcw that dyno'd 280 to 320 whp that was built for track day use.I loved every second at the track but was always using one of my other cars for any type of non spirited driving because the jcw was just too hardecore.

Now I have a f55 that will have a mild suspension, plug and play tuner plus a jcw pro tune kit and some 18in bbs.I want to drive this mini and not leave it covered in the garage like the last one.
