R56 So the rebuild begins...
Don,
I ordered an OS Giken flywheel/clutch assy. There is a guide hole in the factory flywheel so the engine can be timed. Apparently this flywheel was a first generation flywheel and did not come with the hole. I think the new style does.
I was going to pitch a fit yesterday and have them get me one but I decided just to deal with it. It's not that I can't time it, it'll just be harder.
Mark
After you said they had a newer version that has the timing hole, I had Keith with Werkin Mini (great guy by the way!) check with Giken. They confirmed with one of the OS engineers that none of the versions of the flywheel have the timing hole. Not sure where you heard otherwise, but you should have the latest version.

Today's update... finished just about everything on the car. The only thing left to install is the front bumper assy. I left it off because I didn't realize I hadn't ordered a temp sensor. I had it overnighted so tomorrow I can install the front bumper and the cowl panel and other than stripes and clear bra, the only thing I have to do is adjust the door glass.
I took it for an alignment today, Friday I have an appt. to get the car corner weighted and Monday I get the clear bra installed.
Though I didn't install the spoiler, I did put it together. Pics are up of the orange candy over the carbon fiber.
That's about it....
Mark
That's really cool. I like how subtle the orange is in certain light.
Rear Spoiler
Thanks bud, I guess I was told incorrectly... like I mentioned earlier, I decided just to use it anyways. I can still get the car in time if I do a head job, it'll just be a little harder.
Thanks... much appreciated.

Mark,
After looking at your spoiler, you'll have to let me know where and how you did what you did, you've almost got me convinced to go that route with my Lil Guy. Chili Red Candy over the Carbon Fibre would really be interesting.
Oh yes, got my VIN today. Almost has my intials: WMWS then on from there. They started on production of it at 06:47 yesterday morning. Hey, it's on its way.
Almost done...
Got the alignment done, retinted the windows today.
Still have to corner weight the car (next week), finish polishing the car, clear bra, stripes and emblems.
And then.... I'm done.

Thanks bud, MUCH APPRECIATED!
First page has all the pics from start to finish.
In answer to your question... paintjobs start off at about 5K and go up from there. My other bodyshop is a restoration and custom shop and we just painted a '67 Corvette for Rick Hendrick and the paintjob was almost 15K. Just depends on what kind of paintjob you want. If you want a true show job, that is a guaranteed prep, paint, block again and refinish a second time.... there is no such thing as a show job on one paintjob.
Changing colors would be extra. Changing full color (r&i'ing the engine) would be waaaaay more. What a PIA.

Wow, nicely done for almost done.
Are you still doing the diffuser?
One suggestion, just because I'm a purist, it would be real shame to overdo the stripes, if I could vote I would say....
NO STRIPES.
I might have to motor your way just to see the new Oscar.

Mark,
I have to agree, REALLY KILLER!! I truly hope that Mini/BMW is looking at your build, really. No, for your sake, maybe not as that would mean more of these Porsche GT3 Orange. But, they could pick up on the Rear Spoiler, the painted/powdered door handles and trim rings. But, beings as they are in their last three years of the R56, I doubt it, they're too interested in three cylinders.

Great job on the rebuild, the color choice, and on documenting it all so we can watch and admire!

Can't wait till it's all done!
