R56 So the rebuild begins...

Why does the theme from the Six Million Dollar Man keep playing in my head.....specifically when Oscar Goldman is saying "We can make him better, stronger, faster...".
Hey Mark, I almost forgot, the kids MCS got damaged New Years Eve 2 years ago. Not nearly as bad as yours. Maybe Mellow Yellow is jinxed or something.

We painted it Honda S2000 pearl yellow with some extra pearl in the clear.

Having a hugger orange '99 Z28 I'd love to have a orange MINI too!
We use Dupont ChromaBase on our base/clears and all our spot work.
What paint do y'all shoot down there?

We're using BASF right now. I'm trying to open up another shop and close down my main shop and the restoration shop, I need a bigger shop with air conditioning...lol.
If I do, I'm thinking of going with Sikens or Glasurit, we'll see. BASF has been good for us for the last 5 or so years but it's about time to move on.

He's been editing his first post and adding all the pictures to it so we all don't have to read through the whole thread to see his progress.
We shot Sikkens back in the early 90's. Not a bad product, but I wasn't impressed overall. We switched to Glasurit probably 95 or so. Much better overall look and more user friendly than Sikkens. We did switch to Diamont within a couple of years though. We had two cars within a week that Glasurit didn't even have a formula for and a third that dind't match. Of all things, that was a USAA adjusters vehicle that worked the drive in we had in the shop. All three times the sent me Diamont to use instead. I figured if they went to their mid level paint to save their rear ends why not just use it? We did and it was a great product for us for a lot of years. When we changed the shop over to DuPont we went with the Chroma Base system. So far it's worked great. If you have a good DuPont jobber down there it might be worth looking into. Their single stage urethane isn't bad either, but you probably wouldn't have much use for that.
Like everybody else, I can't wait to see the finished product. Might be worth a trip to Charlotte!

Paint is getting expensive and for the size of our shop, if I switch to another paint company, I can usually get them to kick back some money.... usually in the 50-100K range.
BTW... one updated pic.

Are you freakin' serious?
Damn it... I wonder if it's too late to repaint.
No. Definitely not.
It looks awesome. It looks nothing like that ugly *** clubman. I mean, "to each their own", but that thing looks like a JDM enthusiast with an affinity for Halloween got their hands on it.
I wish I had the money, resources, and time to rip my car apart to repaint.
Good luck, looks great so far

I still love the orange/black combo, and that it's a Clubman. But that's just me...
Not saying the clubman is like that but I'm trying to be careful I don't achieve the pumpkin patch effect. Too much black and orange and it'll look like Halloween is my favorite time of the year.

Mind what you call out on here, many of us love our Clubmans. Quite frankly, while I wouldn't have done that front panel in black, I think the orange/black combo looks awesome, on both cars. The black tones it down quite a bit, but still brings a definite edge to the car, rather than just a "hey look at me!" (I chose my LsB/Blk combo for that same reason, wanted the bite without the glare). Stuff like the headlamps, foglamps, MINI logo, etc will help break up the orange/black too. Lookin' good!
Whew, Thank God, I was on my way to the shop to spray out some alternative colors.
