+1 for the gun between the seat and console

This is rather awesome. I'm in SC so if my MINI ever needs some serious attention you're not too far away.

I just wanted to say that you have a gorgeous Mini and that I am jealous of the bond you have (more than likely) formed with it with such labor intensive work and changes.

Very nice!! I especially like that you painted the CD storage door and steering column covers orange as well. Is that a holstered 9mm between the driver's seat & center consule?

Wow, this is my new favorite Mini. Great work, I love everything you did to it. Orange and Black look REALLY good together. All the small details really set this off. Nice..

Orange, How hard is it to replace the A pillar trim peice? I was driving down the highway and it sounded like a bullet hit it and it's got a big chip in it. my car only hav 2,000 miles on it so I will have to replace it. Thanks.

I know you’re gonna think I’m crazy but I can’t remember if it had clips AND 3 screws under the rubber that the glass seals to or just 3 screws. I can take a look Monday to remind myself.

In either case, it’s easy.....

I will have to call the dealer and find out how much that peice costs and get one ordered. If you could let me know Monday I would really appreciate it.

Crap, I’m sorry... I was slammed today and completely forgot about it. I’m writing a note right now.

Sorry.

On the R53, there are just a handfull of clips under there. It's a fairly common occurance that they come off... especially if you have had the windshield replaced, as they have to remove those A-pillar pieces to do the replacement and the clips weaken with the removal and replacement.

My A-pillar was broken during a hail storm and the part cost the repair shop $23. That's probably some sort of wholesale price... I might expect $30-50 across the parts desk to an end consumer.

You can find the parts and pics at www.realoem.com. Look under your model for "Vehicle Trim", then "Exterior Trim". Here is the link to a Nov 2005 build MCS (R53): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...75&hg=51&fg=20

I applied one of these for a friend of mine (another R53) who had the 'highway fly-away' issue that you did. There was a foam gasket underneath that needed to be replaced as well. I put the new one on for him in a parking lot in under 5 min using just my hands (once we pried the old, broken clips out of the holes using a screwdriver).

Cool... I did a google search on the part number and found a dealer that sells all of the bits:

A new cover is $52 for the R53. The molded foam pieced is $8.35 and the clips are all under $1 (but you get new clips included when you buy the cover)

Well, this chapter has ended as Oscar was sold (reluctantly) to a fellow NAM owner.

But, keep your eyes peeled, I found an R53 I'm dying to tear apart, it's been wrecked and needs some work but I've got a couple ideas in my head that I can't get rid of.

Thanks everyone for the compliments, it's been fun working on Oscar and hopefully I'll have another build thread soon.

Check about a half dozen posts up. It was sold over a year ago.
