Ahh, The way read it it sounded more like talking about a project car or something rather than his business. My bad.

I'm going to subject you to my terrible pun humor now.

Guess you could say, that I was a victim of misINFERmation.

That was terrible.

LOL, actually I was talking about Oscar. I quoted someone saying they could buy mine. (I even thought it said car, not shop...lol)

Anyway, I'm debating on selling Oscar. I love the car and nothing is wrong with him, just time to try something else.

I've been driving this countryman for 3 days now. Yesterday I signed all the papers and today I'm suppose to go in and sign the contract. I'm just not sure I need two minis.

Gotta make up my mind today.

Two MINIs is very OK. Oscar and a Countryman works for me.

Do it!

Thanks chap... I had the seats done at a local upholstery shop. I took a pic of the front seats and gave it to an embroidery place. They stitched and I took that piece to the upholstery shop.

The upholstery shop did an awesome job. They cut foam to match the curves and they really look like they are from the factory.... same stitching, same designs, same leather and alcantara.

Can't believe you're selling the car (or thinking about it) Mark. I misread, too and thought you were selling the shop. Seems like you've put a lot of heart and soul into that MINI... But then again, you probably put your heart and soul into everything you work on.

Sorry fish, didn’t see your or Albie’s response. The rear seats cost me about a grand to get done. I bought a set of used seats out of a wrecked mini and that was an add’l 300 bucks. (that way if I ever sell the car and need to pull the seats, I’ve got stock stuff to put back in.)

Though this is a late response, I decided against the Countryman. I liked it a lot but every morning I’d be faced with which car to drive and I really like Oscar... he’s so fun to drive.

So long story short... I’m gonna keep Oscar and drive the crap out of him... :D

I don't think you'll ever regret keeping it. You've put so much time and effort into that sucker...

I hit that crossroad a few years ago with my R53. Bottom line is I kept it, and still continue to happily mod away.

Did you need to get a recode done for the pass seat by a dealer when putting the front Recaro's in ?

Normally you do but since I was using my own heat seater out of my own seats, I didn't need to.

Mark: I recall that somewhere either earlier in this thread or in another post from you it was suggested that BMW/MINI makes it possible to purchase the electrical connectors so that you could fabricate a specific wiring harness or repair one that had been damaged. Can you elaborate?

The wiring harness "repair kit" is from Mini. However, it was to repair the ends of the main harness since mine melted from my power steering pump melting.

For most of BMW/Mini stuff, we buy ends all the time. There are many different ones available and the ones that are not can still be sourced out from an aftermarket electronic company.

Just to be clear, the "ends" and harness repair kits have no corelation between the seats and the dinger. (just making sure we're on the same page)

Thanks. Is there an on-line catalog of these 'ends?' Does the dealer know how to order them?

I just got caught up on this thread. What a nice ride! (the story and oscar). I was watching an episode of West Coast Customs last night, and seeing your thread always impress me with what folks can do with a car (and how quickly). I just drive them.

If you were billing the work to one of your customers, what would you guess the bill would come to?

Of course, my cost is different...lol, but.... The damage from the estimate was 23K. Part of that was paint so add at least another 4-5K for paintjob (includes pulling engine) 3 more grand for OS Giken clutch and LSD.

Custom seats, coilovers, etc, etc... adds even more to it.

Point is, that could easily have been a 30K bill.

northernchap...I put the Recaros in and they were plug and play (well sorta). No recoding. However, as Mark said, for the passenger seat you do need to take the pressure sensor and seat heater (it is one unit) out of your seat and put in the Recaro. But the lumbar heater unit stays. You have to put the pressure sensor in otherwise the computer won't like the passenger and ejects them .
No, not really, but I guess it throws codes and rings nanny bells for ever. But don't know for sure as I had no problems.

As for the seats...buy a set...don't look at the price just buy them...Your first ride you will think they would be a deal at twice the price.
