500 Mile Club

I remember there being a thread for the 1st Gens for those who had 400+ tanks of gas, and wanted to bring the topic up for the 2nd Geners. And of course we have to kick it up a notch.

Has anyone else here broken the 500 mile mark on a tank of gas?

Over the past 8 days I have traveled 501 miles on a single tank of gas. The OBC showed 41.9mpg, but my calculations were 34.41mpg (14.559 gallons of gas on this fill up.)

Yeah- once went to 508.5. There should be some sort of warning in the manual for what happens when you miss a gas station with your wife in the car and a single candy corn to go!

Been there and done that a couple of times. However, I was really trying in my justacooper and got something like 44+ mpg on that tank

Not really a hard thing to do on the open hiway, i just refuse to let the tank get that empty. I regularly do in the 470- 480 range when traveling and still have 4 plus gallons left in the tank.

Easy enough to do on a long boring trip. The downside is that you have to average 55 mph for 10 hours to get that. That is a lot of windshield time.

i have hit the upper 550's. I have actually seen 601 miles to empty on the read out. I took a pic.

I fill up as soon as the last two candy corns turn red which is about 12-point-something gallons used. My driving is a mix of city and back roads

I get 503 to 510 mikes to that point on a regular basis. Never have let the last to corns go out so I don't know what the last few gallons would net.

I've got an MCS and the furthest I've been able to go is 400 miles but that's with a mix of city and highway driving.

Best I've got was 430 on ~13 miles. Whatever it was it calculated to 37mpg. This included traffic into Busch Gardens and traffic out of VA beach to richmond.

Most I've done is 492 miles. That was keeping watch on the remaining range and getting down to 20 miles. The fill up was 13.2gal, so we could probably have done another 30 miles. That was at an average speed of 68 mph, so we weren't hanging around.

Usually I fill up long before I get to that point, but I knew there was gas station within range.

I usually average around 490something. ..I am sure i've hit 500 or more just wasn't aware of it at the time. Now, i'll be watching my mileage.

With such great gas mileage, I always wonder why Mini's are NEVER mentioned in fuel economy comparission run on TV ads. They always present Honda's, Nissan's and Fords getting 31 and 33 MPG. I am always like WTF? -My Mini has averaged 35-38 over the past 2 years.

I typically go 480-490 miles on a tank but have gone over 500 twice. This is a combination back country roads and town. I could probably do 500 most the time but I usually gas up when the last 2 bars go red. I routinely get 38 mpg (calculated) without trying at all. If I tone down the spirited back road driving and/or put some highway miles on it I easily get 40+ mpg.

this is one club i'll never be able to join. i have a slightly better chance at the mile high club. i tend to get 20mpg in my MC. dodging taxis and such in nyc doesn't help. if i had a MCS, i might actually get better cause i wouldn't have to work the engine as hard, but then again, i'd probably drive faster.

I just got back from a trip to the midwest and I let one tank go just over 500 miles (about 39 mpg). Average speed was just under 70 mph. I'm sure I could get 45mpg if I set the cruise on 60 mph for the full tank. Normally I average about 33mpg on my commute of mixed city and highway driving.

I've got an '08 MCS.

I was getting 480 regularly and hit 500 just once. I think it was 503. In my neck of the woods, it's hard to not do 75 (love the Long Island Expressway...) and I've also been hitting the Sport button too often.

450 - 460 is the norm now.

Seriously, the hardest part about hitting 500miles on an MCS is not being able to drive it the way you want to for 500 miles.

A better thread would be who can turn the fuel gauge red in under 250miles.

Easy. Tune kit, Sport on, fast starts, having the auto shift at redline in manual, foot on the gas all the time. No letting up, no compromises

I would also like to add that it should be done on public roads without getting a ticket.

I dont consider myself a very fast driver i keep up with traffic and do a mix of driving highway and city, but I have never been near the numbers you guys are talking about, I get 260 to a tank and the red light is on. Last trip home from Boston started on a full tank came home in 3 hours flat, Computer told me I average 71 MPH and I was on the red corn the last 20 minutes
alittle over 213 miles mostly with the cruise control on.

Ha, so true.

The most I've gotten to a tank was 411 and I had 2 candy corns left. Normally though, I get around 370-380 (again, with 2 candy corns to go). One of these days, I'll actually try and see if I can get over 500.
