Roadworthiness warning

My car is giving me a service warning when I start it up and it tunrs out to be the "roadworthiness" one. Being as how all it means is that it thinks it's time for me to get it inspected, how do i get rid of it?

Thanks.

Simple enough, take it to the dealer.

Not sure but I suspect this may indeed be a convenient "State testing reqiured" indicator as you can manipulate the date.. yourself

When its showing press and hold the button and it switches to the month, tapping the button changes the month. wait 10 secs and it switches to year, again tap and you can chage the year.

I just got the same thing. The dealer called it a "statutory emissions test" warning that is scheduled at the car's anniversary. Took it to the dealer, got the warning cleared and got the car washed, all for free.

I just got my 08 Cooper back from the dealer yesterday after an oil change, front brakes, window re-programming. (34000 miles on it, last free maintenance) before I left to drive home 2 1/2 hours I decided to scroll through the Service Info menu to make sure everything was reset. Lo and behold the Roadworthiness icon is red. So I go back in and tell the service advisor and she says it's an emissions light and she would take it back to service and they would reset it. They did. Funny thing is, I have scrolled though the service menu a million times and I have NEVER even seen this Roadworthiness Icon ever! It wasn't ever there! Not red, yellow or orange. I started playing with the date on it and tried turning it back to a previous month to see if it would go away and it just turned orange so I set it back to a future date which was 2/2011 when I first saw it. Am I insane? Was this Icon always there? Does everybody else have it in there service menu?

I got this same warning about a month ago on my '08 Cooper. Mine showed yellow until the end of November, then turned red on Dec 1st. I had never seen this icon before, either.

I took it in to the dealer and they told me that it indicated a required emissions inspection in some US states. The odd thing is - - I live in Canada, and we have no such regulation or requirement.

The service guy scanned the info stored in my key, then reset the computer (I think he just changed the date to sometime in the future, as mentioned above) and sent me on my way. Took about 5 minutes in total and cost nothing. This kind of "service required" light I like!!

That one showed up at 18 months for Shawn .The dealer said its not needed in California, so he reprogrammed it to 2029 so it'll never bother us again (unless we keep him 20 years).

you can set it yourself to any date you want but the funny thing is, is it was never there before at all. not in yellow, orange or red. but now I guess it is in the service info menu now forever.

I found that strange, too - never saw it in any menu until the reminder showed at startup - now it's in the service menu when I scroll through those items. It is described in the owner's manual, though, so I guess it was there all along, just invisible until it triggered itself.

Also - I guess the US and Canadian software must be the same, since that emissions check is a US - only regulation, according to the SA at my MINI dealer. Makes me wonder if there are any other software surprises in store for us Canadian MINI-ites in the future???

Got this same thing after my annual oil change. Thanks to this thread, I reset the date and no longer get the 'SERVICE' notification.
