That I have no idea what Svolume is or what it does (not mentioned in the manual)! Also, that the fan runs for a good 3mins after I turn off my mini... is that normal??

Not really about the mini.. but the fact that 91 is the highest octane gas available in CA!!! Why is that!??

I also have no idea as to why the highest octane in CA is 91. Maybe to reduce performance and slow down the cars but thats just a guess. I also don't know what the Svolume is but what I do know is that it is okay for the car's fan to work after the engine is off. It is winding down and cooling the Turbos (It is an S right).

lol... out of all the states.. you would think CA would have 100 octane with all the bentleys and Lamboz out here in Los Angeles!

Nope, its Justa cooper! The first day I brought her home the fan stayed on which I thought was odd... then I wasn't told by my sales guy about pushing the break before pushing start and after several attempted starts.... I decided to read the manual. I wonder if I did any damage while trying to start my mini without applying the break...

S-volume is the speed-dependent volume control. It's mentioned in the Boost CD supplementary manual (the accordion-like cardboard flyer).

I beleive the options are programmed into the keys. Apparently that key was not programmed. You can program the key yourself. All the directions are in the owners manual.

Both of my keys have been programmed. There is something happening when I take out the 'key' part of the key fob

No buddy I doubt you damaged the car at all by not pressing the brake. If it was hot the fan was probably work OT (overtime) to cool down the engine. It stopped after 5-20 minutes right??? The reason why you have to press the brake to turn on the car is because it has built in safety feature that may stop the car if it begins to roll or i dunno... Its kinda stupid but it is required by the law.My MCS is a manual and it requires me to press the clutch to start it.

Nope. After reading all the gripes about it , here on NAM, I decided against it.And I was coming from a MCC at the time. I miss the open roof, but not the rattles and squeaks.

It all stems from a lawsuit against AUDI that happened in the 1980s- it was called unintended accelleration. Claim was the car would spontaniously accellerate upon start up. Although never proven our saftey monitors in DC required the brake/clutch two step as a cure.

Thanks! Yea.. I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to my mini! Being my first push to start car, I tried over and over to start it... never occurred to me to push the break.. lol.

Yep, although I don't think the Audi problem generally happened right at startup - it usually happened during slow-speed maneuvering, like in a parking lot, parking garage, or driveway.

Over the years, I think everyone's come to the conclusion that the problem was really with the pedal layout in the Quattro - drivers would go to apply the brake and get a footfull of gas pedal instead. But as you say, we've been living with the starter interlocks ever since.

What drives me nuts?

Its always in the shop. Now it is in the shop because the car stopped running at 39000 Km. They needed to replace the DME (computer) but there is still something wrong with it and they cant figure it out

Coming from the Northern US:
- the fact that the windows have to drop a quarter inch to open the door. In the winter, even if there's not ice/snow on the window, it won't come back up (or operate at all) when I get in so I have to drive to work for an hour with cold air whistling in through the crack. This was annoying enough this winter to make me regret buying the car. On the other hand, whoever wanted to just crack your window....there you go :D

- Sun visor doesn't cover the corner of the windshield, which naturally is where the sun always is when I'm driving into it. And I can't wear sunglasses, unfortunately (or at least, can't afford what a prescription pair would cost me)

ipod software is very crude... real safety hazard to find a particular artist without scrolling through everyone on your ipod starting at "A". God forbid you like the "Zebras" lol. Unlike the blue tooth scroll which is fine through your phonebook... that is, if your Mini recognizes your phone at all. Won't see mine! Blows...

Run-Flat tires!

Mine are the 195-55-16's and they are just about unobtainable. I've needed two in 3 months of ownership- they can't be patched- and the Mini dealer is the only place I can find them. I have the warranty for wheels and tires, but this is a real aggravation when I'm a considerable distance from the Mini dealer.

I will say that Mini of Orlando is a seriously well-run dealer, though.

Constant trepidation about future problems.
Keep almost scratching door paint with my key as I open the car door.

I will put in a plug for the Parott EVO 3000 that New Mini Stuff sells after market. I tried it while driving for the first time and it would not recognize anything I was saying. I then learned that I was talking too loud thinking I needed to because of the road noise. Once I started to just talk in a low, normal tone it got everything right. My wife siad that she heard me fine and did not notice the road noise like she did when I used the Nuvi blue tooth.

This is a very good after market option if anyone wants hands free.

Jim
