The absolutely sh*tty one-way, paper cone speaker drivers. I've seen better quality drivers in clock radios. I have replaced all of them except the rear 6x9's (too much to take apart to get to) and will be installing an 8" sub this weekend.

What brand/models did you install? I need to do this too and want to do it without adding an amp.

First off, I have the non-Hifi system (6 Speakers). I replaced the lower front 5.5" drivers with the 6.5" Infinity 6022si's (3 way), and the upper fronts with Infinity 3022cf's (2 Way). Both fit perfectly, but you'll have to drill new mounting holes in the plastic housing. See a picture here. These are probably not the best option for the HiFi system - you probably should explore component systems (seperate drivers for woofers, tweeters and midrange with crossovers).
I highly recommend taking the time to read this entire thread. It was most helpful, and although it is very lengthy, it should answer almost any question you might have. And the participants are really cool about answering all your queries and giving additional details.
#1 The way the boot gets so dirty so quickly. I can drive around the block and it's time for another wash
#2 I was cleaning the car on the weekend so I elected to put in a Coldplay CD, the CD player kept shutting off every 5 to 10 minutes. Is that me, the CD or something else (Anybody else experience something like this)?

That was funny. I don't care who you are. And I like Coldplay!
Seriously though, it shuts off unless you hit the start button twice without the clutch engaged. Assuming you have a standard. Otherwise, I have no idea how to make it stay on.

Im think the auto works the same way. Hit the start button with the key in but no foot on the brake. It's made to shut off ofter a period of time to prevent battery rundown. It's like going into programming mode only you are not going to program anything.

Pat
Yeah, and the problem with hitting the start button twice is, the fan still runs, so you'll need to turn the fan down.

The MINI is set to shut off to preserve the battery. I thought it was supposed to be 15 minutes, but I haven't timed it.
The standard stereo absolutely sucks! I had the HK system in my '04 R50 Cooper and I loved it, although it had some issues with having too much bass on some CD's. Wish I had that old system back now though. Also, and this is a BIG one, ADJUSTABLE intermittent wipers! C'mon!!! Even a Chevy Cobalt has them. The set speed of the wiper cycle isn't all THAT bad, but a "premium" car should have adjustable speeds on the intermittent setting. Wake up MINI, this is just a stupid thing to miss. It's 2009, not 1989!
