auto up windows with a mind of their own

Hey all...

Every few days, apropos of nothing I can see, my driver's window (when activated) goes up to within 1" of closing, then stops and descends to halfway. It often takes 2-3 cycles of this behavior (me activating the toggle each time) before the window fully closes in one action. It was fine for the first month, this seemed to come on recently.

Is there a sensor somewhere that may be dirty? How do these windows actually work, and am I alone with this?

Try this:

Drop the window all the way down, and hold the toggle switch for about 20-30 seconds.

Then cycle it back up, all the way up, and hold it there another 20-30 seconds.

This should reprogram the microswitch.

I'm also having window problems. My passenger side window won't do the auto-dip thing when you open the door. I was also having the same problem as Oceaneer, and Eric's switch reset problem fixed that. I was hoping it would fix the auto-dip as well, but no go.

Any ideas?

I'm also having problems with the automatic windows. First, the driver's side window wouldn't auto up for a day or two. Then the passenger side. Yesterday, my driver's side window did the same thing that the OP's window did. Each time, I held the switch, as directed by posts on this board and it fixed the problem, but temporarily.

I'm debating on reporting this to my MA... anyone know what causes this and is there something they can do to fix it?

If it does not fix it for good, it's likely a microswitch.

Ironically, my driver's side does this intermittently, so it's on the to-do list whenever I get around to taking it in. Not a biggie though.

My driver's side window would go up all the way, and then down half way and stop, or down all the way and then half way up and stop. It would take several attempts to get it closed and then it wouldn't open that slight amount when the door was open. I tried the reset, holding the window toggle down for 30 seconds, etc, but it didn't work. It had to be reset at the dealership. Good luck.

What they all said above!
I used the HOLD SWITCH a couple weeks after taking delivery.

If the problem continues, hire a witch doctor or voo doo lady.

Buzz has the same problem intermittenly. Mini of Nashville replaced the window motor, but that didn't correct the problem. They said if it happens again they will need to talk to Mini and most likely replace some chip in the system.

What a timely thread... out of blue (2008 MCS) the passenger window would auto down fine but when auto up would touch the top seal then go back down half way...would close if you held switch in up position. Called service advisor..went to dealership (MINI of Sterling)...took right away (knew exactly what was issue so appears not unusual) and in 35 minutes returned... just a simple re flash of the computer to reset the auto up feature..apparently can happen and is a easy fix. All is well again...told Ellen Me'lo got a 'minor lobotomy'

I've got this auto-up issue as well. It seems to only happen when i'm in park. Guess i'll have to wait for my next trip to the dealer if the reset Eric recommended doesn't work. Unfortunately, its at least good to know i'm not alone with this issue.
