Will "Service" light disappear as it hits "0"?

I am one of those people who got "free" oil change through MINI dealer upon one year anniversary in May ( I bought my MINI in May 2007). At that time, the service "count-down" reading was "4000 - 02/2009". Now as I start the engine, "service" light comes on briefly along with the "count-down". What is going to happen when the reading hits zero? Does it need to be re-set? If so, how? I cannot find it in the owner's manual. Thank you for your advise.

When it hits zero it will turn red and become very annoying. Here's how to reset your service lights.

You could take it in again and get it serviced again. Might as well get as many free ones as you can

Or just take it back and have them reset the light when it comes on.

Actually..they did it right

Wierd but true...this happened on my 02 as well.

If you bring it in for a 12 month b4 the counter goes off, they are not to reset the counter because that messes up the interval for everything else. At 12 months they only did fluids and held off on the other checks due when the counter hits zero.

I got a 12 month oil change and another about 2 months later when they checked the other stuff. That's the way they wrote the program.....go figure. I got loaners and they weren't far away so no biggie....

I called my dealer and got the same story. I thought it was strange as well. My 12 months is coming in a few weeks and my service to go is 1500 miles. I thought they would just do all the services and reset the light, but that's not the case. So I have to wait about a month more.

I got mine at a year (15k miles) and they didn't reset it. Now it's at almost 20k and when I start it the service indicator (a car profile) is red, says that I'm 500 over, then it goes out and that's that. It's not obnoxious at all. I'll get around to another service one of these days, I'm 100 miles from the dealer.

Thank you, OXYBLUECOOP! I followed the instruction above and it is now taken care of. For the heck of it, I called the service department today. They did not know what I was talking about.
