Rubber grips on MCS pedals

My car is two weeks old and has under 400 miles on it. Today I noticed that the rubber grip on my clutch pedal has a piece broken off already. Not sure how this happened as I don't wear shoes with sharp soles or anything.

Anyone had this problem before? Is this covered by warranty? Does one have to get a new pedal cover or can the rubber grips just be replaced?

Hi there, I had the exact same issue and was very surprised. I took it to the dealership and basically told them I know I stepped on it but wasn't expecting it to wear out so fast. They end up replacing it for me so it's all cool. Good luck

You might want to check your pedal to see if a wrapping was left on. I had the same problem, at about the same time, and took it in for that and some other stuff. The car was returned to me fixed, but there wasn't any note about a part replaced. It looked different, though, and I think all they did was finish unwrapping it!

It doesn't look wrapped at all. RCCC, what happened after they replaced it? Did it wear out/down again?

Update: went to the dealer today. They replaced the entire cap for the clutch pedal with a new one. SA said he'd never seen the rubber grip wear out like that before.

hmm...i will have to check mine to see if any 'unwrapping' is necessary as I feel that even with the rubber grips the pedals are way too slippery.

Wow. I wasn't the only one. I was very dissapointed to have the pedal damaged because it only has been a month since I picked up the car. Well, I know this has nothing to do with the subject, but anyone find these pedals annoying when your shoes are wet? When it rained here in socal, I had to listen to very annoying squeak everytime when i stepped on a clutch. This is making me want to replace rubber pedals to those metal ones.

infamouxsfob, when your shoes are wet it is normal to get a lot of squeaking noise between the bottom of your shoe (rubber) and the pedal (rubber). The ones on the MCS are mainly metal, but have those three rubber strips for traction. I don't think they squeak as much as a full rubber pedal, but the noise is still there.

With the full metal ones, I'd imagine that when your shoes are wet, there'd be more slipping since the metal might not have good traction.

BTW, my I've had my car two weeks and this rubber strip broke...two weeks!!!

I am mainly annoyed because i didnt have this problem with my previous car. Maybe I am being overly sensitive on insignificant problem.

Man, I heading out to the dealer tomorrow to see if I can get the strips replaced also.

They'll just swap the cap on the pedal...that includes the oval, the silvery part as well as the rubber grips. I don't think they sell just the rubber strips.

By any chance do you have rubber mats? This might be causing the noise as on carpet mats the water is absorbed from your shoe after a few times. Not the case with rubber.

I think it would depend on the kind of rubber on the shoes. Try different shoes. I haven't heard any squeaking with running shoes, but I have an MCS.

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't got any problem since the replacement or may be i was conciously "baby-ing" it . If I have to guess, i thought it was the way I step on it or the way i release it and it begin to have a cut and overtime grew bigger... gee i don't know what i'm saying but it's ok for now, hope it helps

Don't wear spikes when driving.

I went out to my car and looked at the pedals. The left most rubber strip on the clutch pedal is worn.

Sorry, but I have a newbie question:

With everyone getting replacement MCS sport pedals, does anyone know if the dealer will sell the pedals for a standard MC? I love the MCS aluminum pedals, but will probably be buying a Cooper. I didn't see the option to get the aluminum pedals with a standard MC......

Are they available and replaceable?

Thank you.

if you want the MCS pedals, they will also fit the MC. They are available at MossMINI.com
