Bluetooth phone options

I have an 07 Mini S without the bluetooth navigation package. I would like to be able to use my bluetooth phone hands free. Preferably using the radio display as the caller ID and menu display, along with using the speaker system for the audio. It would be nice if the factory spot for the mic could be used but not a necesity.
What are the options for getting this done? What parts and or products need to be purchased and who can install them?

Thanks
Brian

I use the parrot ck 3000 in my BMW, and it provides this functionality.

does the parrot set up allow you to use the controls currently on the steering wheel? I want to avoid adding a noticebale device to the dash.

Not unless you wire in into the steering wheel. My friend has a Parrot Device on his Accord V6 (05) really nice...

The ck 3000 has to be mounted where you can reach it to initiate a call, and adjust volume. It is, however, very small.

i thought there may have been a way to utilize the functions already present on the steering wheel. It seems like it should just be a wiring issue.

Have you asked your dealer about getting the OEM Bluetooth installed?

Just called the dealer and they said they could install the bluetooth module and enable the steering controls for $350 bucks. Not bad at all,, I didnt ask if that interfaced with the radio for caller id and so forth, but thats sounds like a plausible and likely way to go.
Seems like I asked the salesman about that when i bought the car and he told me 7-800 and thats the reason i hadnt called the parts department about it.
Good call

The OEM Bluetooth plays through the audio system and uses the mic in the roof console. While they are installing it, you might ask them if they would move the mic to the driver side. For some reason, BMW installs it on the right side.

Or, you can move it yourself. See this thread. It is pretty easy.

My mic is on the left. Maybe they changed that when they fixed the hidden storage box.

I don't remember. I got it the last weekend in April. After reading the post on it, I opened up the roof console cover and it was on the left. No wonder I didn't have the problems others were discussing.

If you are on the East Coast, then our cars would have been built about the same time. Sounds like it is somewhat random as to whether it is on the right or left.

Yeah. That seemed to be true of the unlocked boxes around that time, too.

I think Birdman had his installed on the right side and he just recently picked up his Mini. I will be checking mine when I take delivery in about three weeks.

Apparantly you can do this with the Parrot system and an separate wiring system they have. It will work through the MFSW just like the factory unit.

I never got any return email from Parrot either. The links above will show you something. Best to call Parrot if you live in the States.

I was waiting for dealer install. $2000?! What dealer quoted that?

Depends on the exchange rate on any given day, and the rate your credit card uses is often different than the "norm" for that day.

These kits from NMS are nice because you don't need to mount the ugly keypad anywhere - it uses the steering wheel buttons and that's it.

Parrot is based in the states as well. If I was in England I would buy from NMS but with the exchange and shipping it would significantly increase the cost.
