Another Clearbra Post

There seem to be alot of them for some reason, so let me add to the mix (yes, I read most of the other ones and did not find my answer ).

My MINI should be arriving in a couple of weeks, and I have decided to get the clearbra installed at the dealers (Otto's Mini). They outsource it, of course. The product their installer uses is called Road Block. They have it on one of their floor models and it looks great. My question is - has anyone had any experience with or can provide me with any links, anecdotes, etc. about Road Block?

A rookie owner thanks you.

Just ask the dealer who they outsource it to and give them a call. Ask them about the product. Is it 3M or VentureShield or what? That's what I'd ask them.
Good luck.

I did speak with them this weekend and asked those very questions (not who the installer is, though). It's not 3M and it's not Venture Shield, however.

I'd suggest that an Internet search is in order. I found several links to the product, it is actually called Autobahnd Road Block, the company website is http://www.autobahndint.com/

Thanks, SimpsonGI. That's just what I needed. Should have looked a little harder.

Get the 3M. I would be worried about warranty claimes if it starts to fade or turn yellow. My experince with 3M is that they stand by their product and I am happy with my clear bra. Just make sure you wax it oftern

For what its worth, lets start a thong thread if we are lookint at a panty thread

As much as I hate to add still another clear bra post....has anyone had experience with the Baekert Clearshield? The MINI dealer will install a 3M for $650, while a shop in town with lots of experience installs the Baekert for about half the price. They used to install the 3M but had problems with yellowing (which I understand have been corrected). Thanks for any advice...

What do you do about dirt getting under some of the edges on a white car? This happened in a few spots, but especially where the bra meets the black hood stripes (which are under the clear bra). How thew heck do you get rid of this?

I don't think you can get rid of the dirt spots. That is a good quality adhesive that the dirt is stuck to. The only thing you can do is take it off and start over, as far as I know. Call your buddies at 3M -- like the poster above mentions. I think you will find them saying "um, er, um -- you are stuck with it".

I'm not a fan of this stuff and mentioned it in an earlier post. I've been through the full cycle -- put it on myself, drove the car for 6 years, trimmed off the dirt spots, saw the yellowing, and cracks, then spent a couple of days getting it off. Putting it on is "hard" but taking it off is "impossible". You may as well just repaint the front of car. 3M may be a good company for some stuff, but they blow when it comes to ScotchCal, ScotchGuard, and the like.

That is exactly why paying a shop that offers lifetime warranties on the installation and product is worth the cost. We had the ventureshield product installed. Lifetime warranty on both installation and product. If it every has issues, they will take care of it so I don't have to. We also paid about 2/3 of what it would cost to have it installed from the dealer (they incidentally only offer a 5 year warranty).

Bottom line, check the warranties and pay to have someone install it. It's well worth the extra money.

I haven't found any place down in LA or San Diego area that offers a lifetime warranty on any clear bra material. The max that I have seen is 5 years. Can anyone direct me to a place that offers the lifetime guarantee?! Cause obviously that is the place I want to get the car done at.

VentureShield has dealers in both areas. Here's a link for a search page:

Greetings! Welcome to NAM. I got my MINI at Otto's about a month ago, and had the Roadblock installed. I was very impressed with it, and I know that other MINI owners were impressed with how invisible it is. (Alot of times you can see a line that looks like a scratch across the bonnet). In the month that I've had "Tori", I've had no problems with the Roadblock. It still looks as invisible as the day I picked her up.

Granted, it's only been a month, so it's hard to tell how it will hold up over a longer period of time. I did ask my MA many questions about roadblock, and I got the distinct feeling that if I am unhappy with it in the future Otto's will fix whatever the problem would be. They didn't seem to have many problems with it thus far, and that's always a good sign. I hope this helps!

Sowellman: Ok I checked the link and the place that I was planning on getting it done (Ultimate Shield) does not offer the lifetime warranty. They offer the 5 year thing. Is the lifetime warranty dealing straight with Ventureshield and not the installer?
