Ahhhhh, yes, I can see where today would be different than other days.

I mean, all the time we've spent focusing on work since placing the order for Deacon....mhm, we've earned the right to slack off a bit now that he's here.

What is this thing called "work" you speak of?

Washing wheels -- is that anything like licking boots? Sounds sort of like it when they aren't your wheels.

Hummm,

Washing wheels, purty wheels, what I really want to know is are you all getting in any good drives with Deacon? Anything planned for a short road trip for the 3 day weekend?

I know you have to get back to work so you can buy more mods, but how about it. Can you say! Road Trip!

Another note, I guess it is time to update my sig. Unless we want to get a new siggy which says 'Support Mods for Deacon'.

Gotta go, I beat the rain and mowed the eas/west and front after lunch, now I have to do a little bit of inside work. Poor scooter, so neglected, I noticed a fine layer of dust when I put the mower away. Hummm, time for drive, the heck with work.

I beat myself home yesterday

Well...3 days A.D.

I get ready to leave work at 5:00 pm. Looking forward to sitting in traffic with Deacon knowing eveyone is staring at him . Before I leave the parking lot I set Navigation to get me home... not that I don't know the route, but because I can. Shortly after getting on the freeway I hear "There is a new traffic incident on your route, recalcualting" then "Please exit the freeway right". Okay... not sure if I should trust the NAV or not I get off and call Tigsy (via bloetooth which I love) and tell her I'm detouring.

The end result was taking some nice little side streets where there was no traffic, and I got home 20 mins earlier than usual!

I loves my MINI!

IYo Mike, Post says 3:26pm, is this a today post or has San Diego wandered off into another time zone?

It is nice you got the new route via the NAV. Let us know if it takes you via TJ.

(I see it, post was about yesterday, I really have to read all the little niggling details. )

The title of his post said "yesterday". So, no time-warping.

I've had the NAV guide me around traffic jams in San Jose and Los Angeles. However, Monterey isn't covered.

Someone is out motoring. It is to be expected. Hopefully, this thread will follow the mods to Deacon. And, while we are at it, might as well talk about our own mods. How is Samwise? Moving any closer to that audio upgrade? Or, are you still in research and banking mode?

I'm almost ready to put the right-side panels back in. Then it will be building the floor and cabinet. The left side is already back together. I've replaced most of the interior lights with red LEDs in case I take it to astronomy star parties. The red preserves night vision.

I'd be very interested in hearing about that, as I'm sure my new MINI will want to go out to those star "parties".

By the way, got the shift ****--BEAUTIFUL! Can't want to start shifting with it!

Robin,

I take it you are upgrading your stereo??? If you said this earlier, I am sorry I missed it. I want to do mine, but don't know if I should do the sub, and then think about replacing the component speakers, or do the component speakers, and maybe not have to do the sub. Thoughts??

Everyone, I am contemplating getting the JCW Stage 1 Kit (have it here for about 1500 euros), but I saw a gorgeous set of AC Schnitzer wheels. Question is would it be taboo to have the JCW kit and run the Schnitzer wheels, or should I just run either JCW everything or Schnitzer everything? I liken it to wearing a Nike shirt and Adidas shoes. Thoughts are welcome.

I can comment on the JCW kit and the AC Schnitzer wheels, great idea. It would give you the JCW components which make the MINI better and the ACS wheels would give your MINI it's own personality which reflects your tastes and desires. Some folks are purists, I am not, so do what you like with your MINI.

Post pictures of course!

Yes, Robin is upgrading and doing a mobile sound theater in his MINI, I hope he can bring us all up to date. It does sound delicious (pun intended), but way out of my tone deaf ears league.

Enjoy, good to see a little breath of life is still here on the Deacon is alive thread. Well we think Deacon lives, not sure about Tigs and SDMike!

We know Emily is enjoying Sam and doing CPR on the thread, SimpsonGI? I suspect all are out catching the last of the Summer drives. What are folks plans for the holiday weekend? I think Robin said he hides at home from all the nut cases driving over the holiday in a previous posting.

I think we will stay close to home on the holiday, the weekend after I have to work a vintage race in Hastings, Nebraska so we will get about 800 mile trip on Scooter, mostly I76 and I80 which is really fast but not a real fun drive, unless you consider dodging big trucks fun. I will get some track laps during lunch break and after the day ends, giving track tours.

Been out motoring

Had my first "issue" with Deacon too.

I was driving uphill leaving my house Tuesday afternoon when I hear a loud "POP" and get codes thrown, lose about 50% of his power. I really gete worried, listening to the car I don't hear anything grinding or hissing, nothing major seems wrong so I head back home to take a look. I keep seeing an "Increased Emissions!" warning on the NAV, Deacon stalls 4 times in the parking lot...

I get him back to his space and pop the hood, call BBCooper... "Dude, Deacon's sick man." he comes rushing over, lights and sirens (He's got his head out the sunroof yelling WOOooooOOO and waving a flashlight). Pulls up parks, jumps out like a superhero, ScangaugeII in one hand, tool bag in the other.

He hooks up the code reader and we get 2 codes. The first something about intake not happy, the second something about the EGR not happy. (will post codes later). I describe what happened and we both look at one another and say "Boost tubes".

Lo and behold the cold side boost tube near the intake has a very odd connector and it let go. 10 minutes figuring out the assembly of the mechanisim and then reinstalling and sealing it. Reset the code, and were off for a test drive.

Deacon proudly made nearly 16lbs of boost during the test run, under 4500RPM and felt like a rocketship!

More motoring to come!

LED bulbs are available for the interior lights. You can get them in white, red, or blue. http://www.fastmini.net/ledinli.html

There is a thread about them in the Mods forum.

If you would like to stand around on a mountain top in the dark with a bunch of nerds, check your area for an amateur astronomy group. They usually have star parties. I've always found them to be friendly and willing to let visitors look through their telescopes. Here is a link to one group.

Thanks very much. That one is a nice burl. Hope your MINI arrives soon.

I'm just swapping speakers. I have the HIFI and got Infinity Kappa 693.7i to replace the 6x9s in back. These seem to be a good match for the wiring of the 6x9s because they have two inputs -- one for the woofer and one for the midrange-dome and tweeter. There are two pairs of wires that come to the 6x9 location -- one for the 6x9 and one for a tweeter. So, it seems that the crossover is in the amp, or before the amp.

I'm hoping not to have to replace amps. Most of my effort is going into sound dampening with Dynamat Extreme and sound insulation with acoustic insulation batting.

I working on the back of the car and haven't even started on the front yet.

I don't see any reason to stick with one brand. Go with what is best for you in each catagory.
