help with my nevereding quest for R56 wheels and tires!
[SIZE=2]Hey folks,
The process to find a identify really great wheels and tires for the new MINI Cooper S has been daunting. Tire wise, BMW chose to use very weird sizes, and basically, no tire company makes a really high performance tire in the 195/55/16 or 205/45/17 for the MINI. Yokohama makes a tire for the Lotus Elise, the Advan Neova AD07 in a 205/50/17. The slightly taller sidewall will fill out the fenders better and make for a smooth ride on the highway, whilst the tread pattern should increase grip alot. I think I will go for those,

And for wheels, the Breyton Flame Junior in black with a polished lip...

The whole package is a little over $2100, but the look should be fantastic. The MINI is only a few hundred pounds heavier than the Lotus, so the Neova tires should work very well.
Take a look at the photos and specs, and let me know what you all think. Remember, the goal is to get maximum handling for the money, winter traction is irrelevant since I would put the stock wheels and tires back on the car in November. An example of handling would be going around a 90 degree corner at 25 - 45 mph with little or no drift, and no tire squeal.
Timeframe to procure everything is about a month and a half since Tirerack doesn't have the wheels in stock. Of all the wheels they sell, the Breytons are the only ones designed specifically for MINI, and they don't require extra mounting hardware.

Nice combo, the tires looks sticky, the sizes are little limted. Love the wheel choice, way our of my range for a 2nd set of wheels.
Your first link is a little busted. But I got around it.

I thought about that. But you have to be careful with clearance when you start widening the tire patch. My old MINI rubbed quite alot with larger wheels and tires and it got old fast.
I just put Dunlop Sport Maxx 205/45/17 on my web spokes. These are non-runflat. Ride is improved 100%, turn in is great. No more "hopping" when hitting a bump while making a turn. The best part, however, is that the S's torque steer it totally gone. It is actually now a pleasure to drive.

What would people recommend for the 16" wheels? My wife ended up putting a lot of cosmetic rather than mechanical/racing options. What is the max width anyone has used on the 16" without problems. Sorry if it's a bit off topic but you were wondering about what is avail in the 16"'s as well from your post. Thanks.
215/45/16 Hankook z212 (sticky!) on 16" Flik FTDs from edge racing. I'll have pics and thoughts today. I got them and put them up to the stock tires and the height is spot on. I'm more concerned with grip and ride than the runflats. I think the neovas are pretty expensive and (imo) overrated like pilot sport ps2s. I've had some of the "expensive" tires before and I'm not totally convinced that they're THAT much better than a nice kumho, falken, or hankook especially for around half the price. I'll stick to cheaper tires so I can try a few sets without breaking the bank. Check out www.edgeracing.com for some good tire prices and rock on! I had the falken RT 615s on my gti and BOY did they stick, but they were noisy and stopped sticking pretty quickly. I'm hoping the hankooks will be better.

Hey Josh
Just so happens that I have a set of Hankook's on my 1992 BMW 525. I'll have to get the model # of them but I was startled to find them so noisy. At 40-45mph they start a whine. At first, I thought something was wrong w/ my Bimmer but realized it was the tires. Hopefully yours will be better.
Cheers, Aonach

www.vulcantire.com sells Falken ZE-912 [UHP] V-rated tires in a 195-55-16
for $79 each, and they are in stock.
Does anyone actually have any pictures of the Breyton flame on a MINI. I was looking at the black but im not sure. I have a MCS hyper blue with white top. I think it could look kind of mean with black wheels. So any pics??? The other option would be the silver but I was just wondering. Also will these clear the JCW brakes?
