Mini clubman latch

2010 mini clubman right rear door latch.
I took out the latch and tested the locking mechanism with a small piece of rod and it doesn't lock automatically.
Am I to assume I need to buy a new latch ?

From reading other posts it appears to be a problem area for clubbies. Someone with more knowledge hopefully will chime in. Try the search and see what you come up with.

If you have a latch that’s not working I’d replace both latches to avoid it not opening and then it’s a PIA to get open when the latch fails. I replaced both of mine when the left one failed.

My left side one has stopped working, although it coincides with the fuse box being replaced and also the rear wash wipe not working

Today my wife tried to close her right rear door and it wouldn’t latch, so she called me to help. I arrived and tried to get it to latch, but the door would not lock closed. I got some string for a store and tied it up so she could get home. Anyone have this problem before?

Did you manually do it with flat head screw driver on the mechanical latch side to test it. Using the screw driver as the fake striker hook.

I took it to our local independent Mini repair shop that does all the work I don’t know how to do and they said the right locking sensor needs to be replaced. It should be repaired by this afternoon.

Thanks!

It’s my wife’s car and she needed to have it repaird by tomorrow so she can take it to work. She didn’t feel comfortable leaving it in a parking lot with velcro strap holding the doors closed, hence the quick need to have it repaired.
