Mini Clubman 2010 Faulty Solenoid
Hi,
I just tried to post something, but I think it timed out so let's try this again.
I drive a 2010 red Mini Clubman with 92,000 and just love it! However, I have been experiencing some problems lately. The first being that the mechanism for my barn doors broke. Next, I had to get my thermostat housing replaced. After that, I had to get my oil valve cover gasket replaced. These are all probably just due to all the miles I've put on my car thus far.
My newest issue is that I have a faulty exhaust (vanos?) solenoid. When I accelerate the engine is sputtering. The dealership wants $400 to fix this. I just wanted to ask if this is a reasonable price. Also, if I don't get it fixed right away will it damage anything else?
One last thing is that I have a fog light malfunction which makes a noise every time I start my car. The dealership wants $150 to update my vehicle with the latest software. If this is valid then I think I will just put up with the noise.
Thanks kindly for any help you can give me. I really appreciate it!!!
Have a great day,
Deb

The vanos solenoid is very easy to replace as it is only one screw and pops out and since it's the exhaust one it's on the front of the engine.

For the fog lights you may be able to just put new bulbs in and get rid of the warning as they may just be too high resistance since they are old. Otherwise you can get it coded out to remove the bulb warning.

In this location on the Cooper ( NON S ) engine.
On the Fog Light do you have a bad connection or a burned out bulb they missed ?

Hi,
Thank you for your messages! I'm sorry that it took me so long to respond.
I'm going to go look at my engine now to see if I can figure out how to replace the valve. I've never really worked on an engine before, although my dad was a great mechanic. It's worth a try. From the picture, it looks like steps 1 and 2, correct?
Regarding the bulb, they have all been replaced. You mentioned that I could get it coded out to get rid of the warning noise. How do I do that? The dealership said that I had outdated software and it would cost $150 to reprogram things.
Thanks kindly for your help,
Deb
