Installed CAI throttle feels sluggish

New Mini owner and new to the forum.

Just purchased a 2013 R55 MCCS and love this car.

Starting the first of many mods but having problems.

Just installed a used K&N Typhoon Series CAI, purchased off eBay. Within the 2nd day of driving noticed the throttle response at the lower end was sluggish. Almost felt like a hesitation when you get on it. In the middle of testing this I accelerated up hill and the MAS error light came on.

I've checked all the clamps and all appears to tight and in place. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here???

Any suggestions

Did you oil it first?
The filters come pre-oiled..
Oil then up a second time, or apply slightly too much after a filter cleaning, and all the sensors in the intake track gets coated...
That's why DRY filters are recommended on most MINI cars...the sensors can SOMETIMES be cleaned once...but the type used on the gen2 cars will usually fail.

You'll probably have to replace the MAS air sensor if it won't clean.
Then return the CAI and spend your $ on something else!
Recommend...
Torque arm insert 40 bucks
Hot side boost tube, 50-150 bucks.
Intercooler

All will give you noticeable performance gains

I don't know what's wrong with your car, but I've been running a Typhoon CAI for a while with no issues.

Did you remember to plug in the connection to the sensor? Now that I'm thinking about it, I did that once and got the same symptoms that you're experiencing....

Thank you. So I pulled the filter washed it out and re-oiled the filter using "what I'm guessing is the right amount". Still a slight bog at the low end of the 2nd gear but it's running much better.

MAS is fouled though, looks like I'll have to chalk that one up to a rookie mistake...

Any recommendations on the Boost Tube?

This was the first thought I had as well. It was plugged in. Was not expecting to have issues with such a benign install as a CAI...

Boost Tube
This would be the cheapest route

This would be the next option...

This exact thing happened to me after installing the NM CAI. After 2-3 days I got a CEL and the MAF was coated in an oily sheen. Tried cleaning it, but it was cooked. Switched to a dry filter and haven't had the problem since.
