Mini review Opt-7 LED H13 bulbs

I know the LED bulbs are controversial here, but here's my review. The standard halogens bulbs that came on my 2010 Base cabrio are very poor in my opinion. Maybe because they are old bulbs way past their prime, I do not know. The car has 67,000 miles on them. I've had xenons on every car since '99, so I had real trouble going back to halogen reflector headlights. My previous car, a '13 VW CC, was very boring to drive but had an amazing adaptive bixenon lighting system. Going back to basic 1990's lighting technology was downright dangerous for me.

The Opt-7 LED replacement bulbs are pure plug and play. They flicker on startup in the off position, but that's easily solved by just leaving the headlight switch in the on position since they are Instant on. Zero fan noise in the Mini. The whole apparatus and Canbus canceler module fits inside the weatherproof bulb housing. I get a brief headlight warning indicator if I leave the high beams on and then it goes away. No high beam, then there's absolutely no warning if I allow the flicker on startup.

These aren't real highbeams in my opinion. It's just turning on an additional LED on each side and the light doesn't necessarily go farther. I didn't find the dazzle to be bad at all. I find the new Porsche 4 LED headlight assemblies to dazzle other drivers much worst. So far, so good. I don't think I'm going back to halogen bulbs.

Here's a pic at 4am. Excuse my neighbor who likes to double park.

Flickers at off position

Hi Jimmy,

I am thinking about buying these LEDs and found your post on the OPT7 LED while doing my research. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind.

1. How are the LEDs holding up since your install?
2. When you turn on the car and light is at off position, does the flicking go away eventually? Like after a few second? Or do they keep flicking? Any warning light?
3. When using the high beam and the warning light comes on, does the high beam actually work or it simply won't activate?

Thanks in advance!

-Alex
