R50/53 Any '02 owners out there???
I am no longer in the 2002 MINI club, but we did own a '02 R50 MC CVT, purchased brand new in early September '02. It was a beautiful, no frills, little car. We custom ordered in June 2002, built early August '02 and delivered a month later. Total time from order to delivery = 8 weeks (The MCS wait times were running into the months).
Great car. Another NAMer bought it a year ago and now happily lives in Southern California.

Update:
My 2002 MC just passed 318,000 miles a couple days ago.
Everything is stll working perfectly; - nothing seems to be 'getting tired'
Except - - -
It goes to Milwaukee's International Autos tomorrow for a New Radiator.
The present radiator was installed less than 2 years ago after I hit a deer.
But recently, during a routine oil change, the dealer noticed a slight leakage,
and said they'd replace that radiator under warranty.
It must leak only under pressure; - I'd not seen any wet spots under the car.

I have been following your posts over at MINI2.com for a very long time. Glad to finally see you here in NAM.
There is a grey '02 S at a car lot I drive by every day. It is very very clean and I was thinking about getting it for my daughter. If I didn't just get my wife a new MB, that '02 would be in the company of my Clubbie.
What's a 318,000 Mile MINI Look Like?
'ClubmanS' asked to see my MINI, so I've attached a couple photos taken
on November 3, 2008 when it passed 300,000 miles.
That was 18,000 miles ago; - the car still looks the same,
but, Milwaukee's Harbor is frozen now, and there's a lot more snow out there
in front of the house.

ClubmanS, I must be the only guy who ordered that Silk Green; - it was replaced by Gold the following year, and that too was discontinued after one year. Actually, I've seen 4 other Silk Green MINIs in 6 years, but I suspect I counted the same car more than once.
Inside is pretty stock black leatherette; - nothing fancy. But Hey, I wasn't going to risk a lot of money on a brand new design in its first year of production! How could I have known the car would be so much fun - and so trouble free - that I'd want to keep it forever? Oh, I did specify the Sport Seats; - they just fit me so well that I can get out after a 500 mile joy ride and feel better than when I get out of bed in the morning.

Never saw this thread before, but I guess I'm a member. Have a June '02 build. It's a much better street rat than the '09. The newer model is just too refined without the soul and the road feel that the marque promises. The '02 is a keeper until MINI gets back to basics.
So I take you are like me and thinks that the second gen, while very nice and fun cars they have lost some of the genes and flavor of the 1st gen?
Anyone know how to buff out key marks?
My husband drove my '02 to a free concert at SXSW and brought it home with key marks down the side and on the hood. Damned drunks. Any suggestions on buffing the marks out of BRG paint? I don't want to have to get a new paint job because they are never as good as factory paint.
I would recommend getting in touch with Richard:

He's a good guy and has helped me out a lot.
