I feel the same, now at 89,000 miles. This was a bad year for repairs including SC, brakes, cooling fan housing, and a few smaller things here and there. I've also found rust blistering up in a couple small area, one under the driver side door and the rest on the boot along the bottom of taillights and around the boot latch.

So, my plan is to buy a 2010 MCS to take over daiily driving duties and start giving the '02 some real tender loving care.

My '02 now has 75k miles
Had to get new starter, idler pulley, new tensioner this year, but that's really it.
Dealer said i have a leak in my power steering
but otherwise it is still pulling strong!!

Yeah, if I could find another '02 with low miles like that I'd want it.

How Did Owners Resist the Temptation to DRIVE Those Cars?

They must have unwrapped them -and displayed them on the mantel!

It was another clear, cold winter day here - and no one cared where I was -
so I drove 482 miles through the beautiful snow-covered countryside
and watched the odometer go way past 368,000 miles. It's Fun being me!

Yeah, really. I am interested in knowing how well these cars hold up long term.

If your Air Bag light is on, first have the codes checked to see the problem AREA and then have a qualified tech check to ensure there is nothing wrong or that it is fixed and then the light can be reset. This is done mostly at the dealership. If however you knew it was due to the seat being unplugged or faulty wire in it when the seat was moved, you can have someone with an AirBag scan tool reset the light. Again depending on where you are the best bet however is the dealership. Especially if it's in warranty still.

Hope that helps to answer the question. And fwiw the OBDII code reader does not read nor reset the AirBag light unless specifically designed and programmed to do so.

Regards

Scott

+1. I'm not sure about all model years, but I received a special 10-year warranty document in the mail from MINI for the airbag system in my '02 due to problems with the wiring. I've had two dealer airbag system repairs since the basic warranty expired.

Yeah, we're all covered for two more years, then we're SOL.

'02 July build. Original owner. 64,500 miles. Liquid Yellow. Various mods. I love this car. Working on my second skid plate. I still live on a dirt road. The dealership ran a free diagnostic day and I brought my car in. Besides power steering leaks, which caused strange noises from beneath the car, all seems to be fine. I have an extended warranty and I'm glad I bought it. Might need some new struts.
I've loved reading these stories. And, yes, I do remember the days when we all waited for the notification that our car had arrived on a certain ship, and then was being sent to a dealership. I live in New Mexico and drove to Kansas City to pick up my car. We didn't even have a dealership in New Mexico. I had so much fun driving it home. I've kept it waxed and the interior clean. Now about those damn mice.

Well, Peak, considering what others are saying, high mileage doesn't seem to be a desperate issue

Bout to buy some strut plates so I don't have to get new struts
I suggest you do the same. Only $130 from WaymotorWorks.

Fuse OK? (F16, in the passenger compartment fuse panel, protects the K13 relay for the rear window heater)
