DeniseK,
Yup amazing low miles for me, but my MINI has seen a lot of track days I have three cars and don't drive the MINI in the winter so that is why this one is so low in miles. You can get my pics through my gallery.

Arly: Oh, now I see your magic of low mileage. It's the baby. It's the darling baby who keeps that car running with all of that sweet love. I've seen MINIs before, but that baby is one in a million.

My 2002 MC turned "8" two days ago
and its odometer turned over to 387,000 miles.
Everything is working perfectly.
Amazing car!
I'll be driving the Chicago-Denver route of MTTS 2010 soon.

Congratulations ... that's quite an accomplishment. I thought I was up there with 190,000.

Upstate NY '02

I bought my '02 MCS with 73K, 8 months ago and it has been a love affair so far. Having a lot of fun with it, total opposite of my '36 Chevy Streetrod. The Chevy Coupe is brute HP while the MCS is quick and nimble, it's fun going back and forth between the two. I have even taken the MCS to Watkins Glen for a little track time. I am using it as a daily driver and it has been virtually trouble free to date. Only issue I have is it seems you need a special tool for just about everything, special socket to change the oil filter, special tool to change the SC belt etc., so my tool collection continues to grow.

'02 MC- why not keep it forever?

I bought my '02 BRG/W Cooper (03/02 build) used from Hawaii in June '08. It had 54 K on it at the time (91 K now), checked out during the CarChex inspection and so I bought it and had it shipped here to Washington State. It has the Holey wheels, a white roof without a sunroof and the Panther Black and Cordoba Beige interior. Pretty much bone stock and will stay that way. To keep things affordable I do pretty much all my own repairs. My wife ended up liking my car so much, she bought her own ('03 Silk Green)!

This is just before I put the chains on two years ago when it was winter for two weeks straight here in Seattle:

Hands down the best car I have ever had in the snow, and I grew up in North Dakota. Can't imagine why you'd leave one parked in the winter, unless you live in a state that does real heavy salting.

You'll have to pry the car and me apart before I'll give it up. I'll have to agree with the others- the early ones (even pre-refresh) are the best! I don't mind fussy, as long as it is fun! If you are reading this and are wondering if you should get one, do it!

My 02 MC has 99,000 miles on it an runs like a dream. It is a bit loud to ride in due to the mods that I have done but no rattles or anything. I love my Cooper and wouldn't trade it for anything. I just installed a Sprint Booster on it yesterday and OMG I don't know how I lived without it. My only complaint about my MC was the throttle lag and now that is no longer and issue. I am so glad to see that I can expect to have my Cooper around for my more miles (387,000!!! Wow that's awesome) Motor on!

Don't have auto-up but have been thinking about buying the on-line kit unless someone in this forum knows how to do it w/o add-on wiring. Auto-up would be nice but what I really would like is auto unlock. My '02 MCS has auto lock but it is a pain to have to hit the unlock switch or "pull twice". Anyone know how to enable auto unlock without disabling auto lock?

36rodder,

Some 02 cars came with auto up but it was quickly stopped due to the potential of lawsuits for pinched fingers etc.

My brother has BMW software and has programmed auto up for my car. These cars are capable without ian culls auto up circuit, but it's just disabled my BMW/MINI.

the reason im asking for an 02 to step forward is because we cannot get the passenger to be auto up, just driver. i want to see if we can scan an 02 car that would live any where near me. long shot, but still.

to your other question, you can have auto unlock programmed at your dealer. fortunately for me, my brother did it for free! haha.

New MINI owner

Just bought my 2002 Chili Red with 62k for an even $6k. It's a fun quirky car that reminds me of my 79 Spitfire without the constant electrical problems. I love it, down to the Union Jack on the roof.

I like your color matched rockers with the black wheel arches. Are they stock rocker covers painted or aftermarket fiberglass?

Waz Up!!!

Whats going on new to me 02 S, 53,000 on the odometer light blue not sure the actual color name yet.

My power steering went out on me on day 3 but the dealer gave a 1 month warranty, might as well use it...

I took it in once and I had a PT cruiser as a loaner,I hated it! and to add to the awfulness it had old baby smell in it.

I went back to pick it back up from the dealer and they hadn't called me yet,So it may or may not have been done yet. I needed my Cooper back I couldn't take it any more!

I got it back and about a mile from the dealer the steering went out again!
So I got to deal with that awful creation Crysler built again. It said it was getting 12.6 miles to the gallon and I drive an hour to work as is..

not looking to pay that kind of money in gas..Hopefully they have something else available?

electric blue

fleazilla... It's called "Electric Blue". Best color there is

Did they actually replace the steering pump? It's electric and prone to failures on 02s. I had mine replaced twice. Once at about your mileage and again at about 100K. Make sure that they also check (and replace if necessary) the power steering cooling fan. It's a separate part and that's likely failed on an 8 year old car. Also prone to failure on early 02s, and will likely also take out your radiator fans (yet another separate part that is ALSO likely to fail). Lots and lots of threads on this.

Enjoy your car!...the one without the "old baby smell" (ewwwwwwwwwww)

My 2002 MC Now Has 392,600 Miles

I just got home to Milwaukee a couple days ago after driving 3300 miles to participate in "MINI Takes The States - 2010"
and "MINIs In The Mountains".

This is still a truly amazing car - if you ever have doubts, participate in one of these national get-togethers and meet the
Great People who drive them. You think I'm enthusiastic? I just keep stuff longer - as long as it keeps on performing perfectly!

After the events were officially over, I stayed in the mountains an extra day to do a 300 mile loop thru spectacular gorges, plateaus and ridges over 12,000 feet. Why? - I just love driving in the mountains and don't get there often enough.

But, when it was all over, I drove straight thru 1,111 miles in 18 hours to get home to my own little bed.
Car troubles? Nope - still not a rattle or a squeak - or a drop of oil used.
No one ever told me being retired and 84 would be so much fun!
Golf? Are you kidding? - This "Cart" is Air-Conditioned - and Goes Faster!

Glad you enjoyed the MTTS and the Rally in Vale. I would have loved to have trailed along for a few miles. I'm not far from that area and drove over to see the MINI's. I was overwhelmed. They were all awesome.
Good little Car you've got !

great radiator fans too.. The dealer ship will fix the issue as soon as they can see it's the steering pump...Electric Blue Is the fastest color! I'm thinking about putting some lightning bolts down the sides? maybe in yellow, and paint the calipers yellow too. I haven't seen it yet..

The dealer said that the fan is working the way it's supposed to?
well I've looked under there several many times and not seen it running...
I looked somewhere in the threads and they mentioned to make sure the air is on and it should be running?

I've done that and I've driven about a 45 minute trip and no fan running!
