R50/53 Any '02 owners out there???
My wife surprised me with an '02 Cooper on monday! We're both SO excited to have it.
CVT but with 58000k and seems to be running great! (Bought a warranty too! WHEW!)
Our garage houses an '02 MINI Indi blue R50, an '09 Mustang GT and a "Vespa copy" Scooter. It's like the 60's all over again!

Hey champagne...how do you like your Alta PSRS? I just took my car to the dealership for an oil change and a look over. They told me the thrust rod bushings were bad. Thinkin bout getting the PSRS instead of paying the dealership $875 each to replace the thrust rod bushings.
I'm not sure what the thrust rod bushings are, the dealership told me that my control arm bushings were bad and I wanted the polyurethane bushings but they were out of stock for months and I needed to get them replaced so when I found the Alta PSRS I thought I would give them a try. As far as handling/cornering they are awesome. One issue is that they are noisy. I emailed Alta about it and they said there would be some noise but I'm still not sure if the noise I am hearing is okay. Some of the set screws fell out so I emailed Alta and they sent some to me and I am having them put in today with some lock-tight to make sure they don't fall out again. You have to keep an eye on that. Also, they are a pain to get in to the brackets/housings. The guys that put mine in had to take them to a machine shop to get them fitted in there. My advice is if you get them make sure to keep an eye on the screws and noise and email Alta with any questions. Their customer service is AWESOME! They are so helpful and respond to your emails within 24 hours. Don't always fall for what the dealership tells you. I am just lucky to have a friend who owns a speed shop and is very knowledgeable about cars. I had my Mini inspected at a free clinic at the dealership and they told me that I needed to get rid of my Alta PSRS and put the stock bushings back in. I had my friend look at it and he couldn't find any reason why I should do that. He said that the screws just needed to be put back in.
Just Passed 405,000 Miles This Afternoon
Not my favorite kind of day - Rainy, Cool, Dark and Cloudy and I've got my annual Cold - coughing occasionally enough to scare people. But, I'll be darned if I'll stay home, watch football all afternoon on the same 100 yards of grass (probably artificial) when there's a great big beautiful world out there to see. So, I went for a 230 mile ride around Wisconsin's Lake Winnebago thru big wind farms on both the East and West sides. It was Great Therapy; - no place in my house is near as comfortable!
The car? - Oh, it's still running like a new one; - nothing seems to be getting tired - except perhaps the heater motor. Sounds a little different than when new, but by 200,000 miles, all our BMWs and Mercedes had to have theirs replaced.
Lots of 'show and tell' on these threads about modifications - but, I have almost nothing to tell about. I did add a little 'Union Jack' decal on each side after people at a couple stop lights shouted, "Is that Japanese?" That was Summer of 2002, so not many people had seen a MINI at that time. Yeah, those decals are still original like almost everything else; - never faded, or knocked off by the big whirling brushes in the car wash. Remarkable Car!

I've had my '02 for a few months now. I bought it with 32,000 miles on it and have just been taking care of little things - it's very clean - came with the rims shown in my signature block with Pirelli Wintersports mounted as well as a set of JCW's with what appear to be new Continentals. Love the car and am sooo glad I have the S model where the S stands for SUPERcharged. My car came with the aerokit and driving lights. I've added an upgrade stereo. Can't wait to join the rally in Las Vegas in May!!!
2002 R50- 43,994 miles, thought for sure id hate it when my dad pulled into the driveway with my "first car" but within 3 days i literally fell in love with it. my friend has an 09 Audi A4 nd iv driven that nd id take my car over his any day. i just wish the suspension wasn't so stiff, but tht will change when i get my airbag suspension, plus those driveways wont be so harsh on my front end
can u give me information about that? because my mechanic said a new trans in my car would be like $7000 now i think thats bull. i have a 2002 R50 with the auto stick, thats the one where u shift in sports mode, not the paddle shifters
387,000????!!!! whaaaa??? whoa :O
wheel spacers? correct?, what size? i want to know so i can do the same to mine because that looks so sick, btw how did u manage the black in between the hood and door? painted?
Yes Mr 1234 - 387,000 miles Was Correct - But, Not Anymore
It just passed 416,000 miles on my way to Church today.
Everything else is still operating perfectly -
except today that tiny 3 month old stone chip
in the windshield did turn into an 8 inch crack!

I have to ask you, hstanfield, how have you driven that much! I'm glad to see its still holding up after all those miles! Impressive! I have the 109th mini sold from the Mini dealership in Long beach CA. I'm about to turn 86,000 and I'm the original owner.
Capt Thomas asked, "How have you driven that much?"
Don't tell the environmentalists, but, -
it's all been for fun and foolishness.
I've always loved to drive - and drove fancy German cars for 45 years.
But, I've never had a car This Good - or This Much FUN to Drive!
I'm 85, retired, live alone, and don't have to rush home to mow or feed a dog.
So, if it's a nice day - and no one needs me or cares where I am - I'll drive
300, 400, 500 miles - Thankful every mile that I can enjoy God's Beautiful World.

I just joined the 2002 MINI Cooper club this past weekend--decided to sell my car on a whim to a friend(she was recently in a car accident, and could afford a car that was what my Hyundai Accent was worth), so after looking around at what all was available in the area, I found a listing for a 2002 Red MINI(5 spd) with 69k miles on it...and got it for a STEAL.
In the past 4 days, I've basically spent the difference between what I paid, and what it's worth, on a second key, a driver's side door actuator(that my husband is putting in), Blizzak tires(hello blizzard in Iowa!), and an iPod friendly radio. I absolutely don't regret it though! I've never had this much fun driving, or finding little features that I never would have thought to put into a car.
