a few problems (all addressed by warranty) all known issues
replaced fresh air vents
replaced leaky radiator tank....
replaced both airbag wiring harnesses...
rubber door seals replaced
sill rust repaired (by MINI dealer)
replaced both power window motors
replaced dead battery..(on my dime)
and the fan occasionally stays on...
Engine is bone stock..
now with 55,000 trouble free miles (since I've been taking it to a local and trusted MINI mechanic)
Still love the car and wouldn't trade it..

There's nothing more interesting than the fan stuck in the on position. :impatient
Good to see the fan issue is common. It has only happened once.
You can also add the airbag light on (after 3 trips to the dealer....)
light still on with 60000 miles on the odometer....
I'm hoping to get into an accident and the airbags will not deploy.....i need a facelift anyway, and nothing would look better that my head fused with a MINI steering wheel...

Mine started at the last Dragon event after running across with the A/C on. For about 24 hours I had to pull the fuse to shut it off. The next day a similar run without A/C seemed to correct it. I think I just woke it up.
Second-hand word is the high-speed switch is actually within the fan motor itself and requires replacing the entire fan if it stays on forever. Considering everything that is in the way that would be a long effort for a DIYer. I've considered if a manual switch could be mounted within the cabin to make manual shutoff easy. At least until I could save up my pennies for a dealer replacement.
I had the airbag fix go bad a week later. The second replacement has held since. I was in a new Pontiac G6 today and the airbag light works the opposite. A small indicator comes on to tell the passenger his air bad IS ready to deploy. I wonder what happens if the light doesn't come on, like a passenger would say "Hey, no air bag indicator, so I'm getting out!"

05/02 build, bought used with 4700 on the odometer in 11/04. Now has 16000 on it.
Only problem was a belt tensioner malfunction causing the the air-bag indicator light to stay on.
Installed factory 15" MINI wheels with 60 series profile tires. Much better ride. Sacrificed a little cornering capabilities, but it will still go through a corner faster than I would care to go. I kept the original 16" wheels and I'll go back them (non-runflats) when the 15's need replaced.
Made very few changes... Stubby antena, smoke side marker lights, armrest, alloy foot pedals, chrome mirror covers, engine dampner.
Absolutely love it!!! I've promised myself & everyone else that I will always be a MINI owner.

3/02 MC here with 55K....I had my DSC pump go out 3K ago, expensive fix but well worth it....everything else is going strong....I tell myself I love my mini everyday while doing my 100+ mile commute
I'm sorry...
I thought you meant an "O-two" ==00== as in BMW 2002 ==00== I got excited to know there's another Mini AND '02 owner out there.....then I realized you meant year 2002, not model 2002... I guess in that sense, I'm an '04, but whoo-hoo to you '02 owners.
Must have sat a lot in someone's garage. Chase those rattles, they're all fixable one way or another.
02 of 02, thirteenth one out of the dealership, 74k miles.
Under warrenty:
CV shafts (recall)
Front struts (recall)
P.S. Pump and fan
Engine fan wiring harness
Seatback releases
Transmission (midlands 5sp) (just out of warrantey, but they covered it)
Software upgrades
My dime:
Clutch (since the tranny was out anyway...)
Battery
Serpentine belt
Windshield
I LOVE this car! I waited two years for them to get to the states (I have a friend in Germany who sent me pics in 2000), and started bugging the Bimmer dealer 6 months before they hit the states. Gimme, gimme, gimme!
Like Dr. O, I beat it like a gummint mule and it just keeps goin'.
K & N drop in only mod. Oh, and 17" non runflats. I hate those things.

The sad fate of first model year vehicle owners. We get to learn about what we'll need to replace or fix before all others.
Engine fan wiring harness? I just replaced the cooling fan housing with fan as it was the only way to get it. Was I duupped?

7/02 build, Chili red w/white top. I bought it used in 2006 with 28k miles, and now it has 42k miles. A few little problems that the dealer was able to fix under warranty. I fixed (most of) the rattles with help from people in this forum and the int'l forum. It's nice having all you folks out there that are willing to help! I've now mod'ed it a little, including Nology wires, NGK Iridium plugs, and an AFE intake. Next is a Megan catback...

My wife and I have a 1 year old and a MINI. We even took our daughter home from the hospital in our 04 MINI. There is plenty of room for a rear-facing (or front facing) carseat and stroller (if you fold down the other rear seat). We have been on plenty of long road-trips with the baby in the car and never had any issues. Just because you have a baby, doesn't mean that you can't have a MINI too!

Don't know 'bout duped, but my cooling system started an "on again/off again" process that the dealership couldn't nail down so they said they just changed the wiring harness -fan was just fine, sensor was good- and, Lo!, problem solved. Free fix, so I didn't ask many questions.
