R50/53 Any '02 owners out there???
I found out the hard way that just a little water over the road will cause the fan to short. I drove back to Austin from the dealership in San Antonio and thought I was just having problems w/overheating. I called and explained it to them, and they called Mini Roadside Service to get the car and take it back to them. Thankfully it was still under warranty! They replaced several parts that were shorted out when they got wet, and now I mostly avoid any water over the road, or crawl through it as best I can.
I'm up to 185k now. She's still humming away. I need some front-end work done now, however, I believe that it's all standard maintenance at this point:
1. New clutch (1st lasted 60k. This one lasted 120k. Go figure.)
2. CV Axles or Engine Mounts - Vibrating while under torque.
3. New PS Pump.
4. Oil Pan gasket is just barely starting to leak.
But, the engine's still running tight!

Luckily, none.. I don't think i'd really want to go through ANY. It would cause serious damage to the bumper and radiator before getting pushed out of the way. Really don't want to worry about body work.
Nono, I drive an MC, so no supercharger.
Yeah, I did. I think, once or twice, I changed it early, but I still reset the clock when I did.
Oh, and I forgot to mention..
On the 2nd set of spark plugs (installed at 105k), and on the second serpentine belt. If those matter.

I just bought my 1st mini around christmas... A Mint 02 MCS Pure Silver<metalic> black roof want to start modding ASAP! about 47K gonna do some maintenance soon cause im not sure what or when it was done last considering my service interval is at -18k haha Glad to be part of the Mini owners club!!! especially with a classy 02'
Nono. Those LCD modules aren't customizable. They're not dot-matrix style, just digits made to look DMD-ish. That was all photoshopping.
The option has to be programmed for it to work.
Hey, anyone know why we 02 owners can't install the "aux in" for Ipods or the like? Is it cuz of the car or cuz of the early head units? I really want to add one, if I get an 05 head unit (to play mp3's) will that allow me to also hook up the aux in?? Anyone....????
Yea its wierd because you can buy the ipod kit and install it that but not the aux in <which i would prefer>. I think it has something to do with the head. Can you even put an 05' head in an 02'? I would think the harness is different...
from what i've read here, you can do a head unit swap from any year, but past 05 is when you can play mp3's....but yea they are all the same size/wire harness....maybe i'll pick up an 05 unit and take my chances with the aux in setup....worst case I'll have to put my 02 HU back in....
****On another subject....has anyone heard anything bad about the "brake light mod kit" for the 02-04's and burning up the brain that controls all the lights (in the pass side footwell)...I thinks it's call the BMC1 or something like that??? Anyone?

I've read several instances of it being the blame by the dealer, but not proven. I'd run a low watt LED to be safe.
I"m not talking about the 3rd light pulser (I want to get that also
)....there is a kit out there for the early cars like ours that allows you to install another brake light bulb in the open spot of our tail lights....so you'd end up with a working bulb above your orange turn signal....

No bulb needed...
it's already there from the factory.... All it takes is a diode in the connector. FWIW, I have the rear fog option, and I left the diodes in place...

There are a couple more photos in my gallery about modding the connector.

It comes with the diode thing like in the Dr's pic and instructions.
