I need to loosen my Cooper wing to get my stop light out. I've removed the plugs and 10mm nuts. I can get one side up slightly but the other is on tight. Looking at the drawing on OEM, it looks like some kind of a hook but I can't tell. I was just able to slide the light out but I would like to know how the wing is fastened.
Double sided tape, I believe. Here is Richards writeup on the removal of his Cooper wing. Here is another thread that talks about it.
I didn't think you needed to move the spoiler to access the brake light. Kurt, you there? Can you confirm?
I don't have to remove it, but I need to loosen it up on the bottom side. It needs just a slight tilt up. This is the Cooper not the S.
I just had my 3rd brake light replaced under warranty, contacts corroded.. I don't beleive they removed the wing to replace on my 04 cooper... I didn't see it off, but I did not have a clear view of the bay.
The wing is attached with a 3M type if body tape. The 10mm nuts are just added security. To completely remove the wing you need to use a fine wire to cut the tape. There are no hooks or other things holding the wing.
